Found a dead tiny, tiny insect in my daughter's hair last night. It doesn't exactly look like a tick (only 6 legs) but it's so small that I cannot be sure.

Is there a good website with pictures that can help me identify this insect?

Maybe it would be easier if you had something to magnify the insect.

I found all sorts of magnifiers and loupes at Amazon, and got one with an LED light.
Not only can I enlarge unknown bugs, but I can inspect cheap gems to find inclusions.

I agree that a magnifier would help you see it better. Nymph ticks have only six legs.

Here are a couple of sites where you can see tick photos:

You can Google "insect or bug photos" to see photos of insects. Hopefully, it is not a tick.

To narrow down a google search more you can use
google.com/images.

I once suspected a brown recluse spider that crawled across the table and found it there.

It will bring up hundreds of photos.

insects would bring up too many to go through, but if you try ticks, fleas, etc you might run across it.

Actually, nymph ticks do have 8 legs--just so small that they are all hard to see.

If this bug only has 6 legs you can be assured it is not a tick [Smile]

Can a tick be missing 2 legs, by accident, say? I could see how it'd be easy to leave one or two behind on a rough branch.

Young ticks only have six legs.
