I am having a problem with tightness in my calves and facial twitching. I purchased chelated magnesium which is supposed to be highly absorbent. The tightness has actually increased as well as the twitches. I'm puzzled as to why. I also tried hylands leg cramps formula and that increased symptoms as well.

Could it be electrolytes out of balance? I just got some coconut water to see if that would help but these symptoms are driving me crazy.

When did you start the chelated magnesium?
How long after that did the muscle tightness and twitching get worse?

Your kidneys work hard to keep the right balance of minerals in the bloodstream.
When the magnesium is too low, the body draws calcium out of the bones, which weakens them over time.

Take the magnesium at a different time than you take calcium or foods that are high in calcium, like dairy.
Taking magnesium at the same time as calcium can prevent the mag from being absorbed.
You need both, but not together.

You need an adequate level of Vitamin D3 for the body to absorb the magnesium.
Boron can help keep the kidneys from filtering out too much magnesium.

Are you taking B-6 too??

No b-6 or calcium, just b12 and magnesium. I know my vitD is low as well, perhaps this is the problem?

I also know my adrenals are out of whack. My cortisol level is too low in the am, and too high at bedtime. Mg LLNP prescribed pregnenolone for the am and phophatidylserene for bedtime. These made me feel awful though, terrible headaches, hair loss...

The increase in symptoms started a few hrs after taking the mag. The whole left side of my face began twitching, but also felt numb.

Ellen, I am going out on a limb here but i have the same issue with Mag.

I was diagnosed with Protomyxzoa Rhuematica (FL1953), Fry Bug. And the magnesium actually feeds the bug, making symptoms worse.

Have you been tested for co-infections or even the PR?

Just curious and wanted to throw out my experience.

Parasite tx might be in order. Google parasite symptom list. Twitching is very common with a parasite infection and so is muscle cramping.

You might want to have your electrolytes checked. Potassium can also cause muscle issues.
