I was recently prescribed Bicillin LA three times a week. Much to my suprise when I went to pick them up I was told they would be $1,000 for a month's supply.
I spoke with my insurance company and they said that if you have them sent to a hospital or medical establishment (or even a nurse) they would be covered.
First of all, I do not understand that logic at all, and secondly I'm not sure if they would solely cover the medication or if they would cover the cost of the nurse injecting it as well.
After speaking to my llmd, it sounds like this is a common occurrence and that there are ways to get the injections covered by insurance. I just don't understand the process... Do I call a hospital and ask if they will accept the injections for me? Would I have to get them done there or would they release them to me?
Obviously very confused!
Any insight would be appreciated

Mine was covered at a pharmacy through my Rx insurance.

It's weird my Rx insurance covers everything, but they wouldn't accept it because they considered it "self-injectable"

Well, I did at first, then brought my husband and the nurse showed him how to do it-
and for months after that, I would just bring the box home after picking it up from the pharmacy-
Box of shots needs to always remain refrigerated.
