My doc wanted me to take Cipro awhile back, but I can't because of allergies (antibiotic allergies run in my family).

Is there anything natural I can take that's like it???

Someone told me to drink Tonic water but it looks like there's some bad stuff in there (sugar and preservatives).

What's the reason for the cipro - is it to treat Bartonella?

If yes, then there are other abx that will treat Bart.

Also, you might try Cat's Claw...I've heard it may have some similar activity as Cipro.

I can't do any pharmaceutical antibiotics right now (too allergic, not a herx).

Yes, I think I have a bartonella strain that responds to Cipro. It's a long story, but it has to do with info I got from my Lyme support group.

I seem to respond better to herbs and supplements right now.

Have you tried Byron White, A Bart? I have Bart, and also respond well to Cipro. A Bart is the herbal I take for A Bart.

I need something that's like cipro (or levaquin). Maybe something like quinine, but I have no idea how to take that straight. I've only seen it in tonic water.

I don't do well with Byron White (too many herbs).

I probably just need a few herbs I can experiment with and find what works for me. I just don't know what to use.

My LLMD doesn't know about herbs and my herbalist isn't sure what corresponds, so I'm kind of on my own on this.

Buy a Rife machine!

Indeed, Rife is an excellent idea.

Drinking tonic water can be dangerous, as carbonation can literally eat away at the lining of a stomach. Best to avoid all fizzy drinks.

It's also hard to get free of both sugar and artifical sweeteners. If you could find some with just stevia, that might be okay if you stir out the bubbles first. But this would be more for a beverage, not strong enough to be medicine.

If you wanted it just for the quinine, you can get that otherwise (as tincture) but it can have some harsh effects if the dose gets too high and it may not be therapeutically effective if too low. Quinine can be especialy hard on the ears.

Best to find other ways or work with a LL ND.

I think very highly of both these LL authors:

how about buhner?

Randibear - I was actually thinking of emailing buhner about it. Maybe he has a suggestion.

Keebler - I share your concerns about tonic water and taking quinine.

I've seriously exhausted the resources in my area. There's really no one else for me to consult and I can't travel. I can't do a rife machine either.

I really need an herbal or supplements workaround.

Zhang uses Houttuynia for Bart.

Dr. S recommends Clove oil for Bart.

Buhner has a new book (see link above) about herbals for Bart.

I don't think you need an herb that works exactly like Cipro - I think you need herbs that kill Bart however they happen to do it...LOL!

Did you try A-BART. I bet your doctor didn't tell you you have to take a detox formula with it. THat is the key. And the whole reason that company makes detox formulas. No need to suffer from herxing. If you listen to the free information recording you will learn more than your doctor told you for sure. THere is a right way and a wrong way to do things. I'm on several of the formulas and before I started using the detox support formulas I had headaches and felt extremely lethargic until I listened to their info recording on their website and started taking 2 detox formulas to go with it. Feeling fine now and getting better. Information is key! byronwhiteformulas.com The blog link is on their website.
