I had a microscopic blood analysis done recently. It showed evidence of undigested protein, which in itself can cause a lot of the problems (inflammation, kidney stress) that Lyme sufferers have.
I already take Wobenzym.
So I'm looking for something that has more proteases in it.
I'm concerned when I see that the products that have the most proteases in them utilize fungal protease.
Fungal? As Morty Seinfeld would say, "I don't like the sound of that."
Should I not worry about that? Will I be adding problems to the fungal overgrowth already in the gut?
I can't ask doctors about this kind of stuff. Like Lyme, they don't even acknowledge the existence of candida.

chaps,
That was exactly my concern when I started taking digestive enzymes. After much research I chose Super Digestaway by Soloray which contains all plant enzymes such as papaya and bromelein. It also has pancreatin x4 and ox bile. I couldn't find any evidence that it contained fungus.
I love these and also took them in between meals. Also antiparasitic. They also helped clear my brain fog. Hope this helps in your search.

Undigested protein in the blood may indicate you have leaky gut and need to heal the lining of your intestines. DGL, slippery elm bark, marshmallow root are all excellent for helping with this.
Suggest working with an Integrative or Naturopathic physician.
And I agree it would be good to avoid fungal derived enzymes if you have concerns about fungal overgrowth in your body...especially with leaky gut.
Gael's recommendation looks good.

Thanks Gael.
Razzle, believe me, I've been taking all of the leaky gut stuff, most recently Apex's "Repairvite," which has all the stuff you mentioned in there.
In addition I was taking the Apex's glutathione recycler, glutathione cream, and "Strengtia" probiotic.
I had an expensive blood test taken before and after that protocol. The test proved that I was healing the leaky gut, BUT I couldn't afford to stay on that protocol. It was too expensive. I'm sure that I've back-slid since then.
But I think that parasites, candida, and metals have a lot to do with causing leaky gut, which is why I'm working on those right now.
Thanks Gael, you've always made good recommendations.

I hope you are also eating gluten-free?
Yes, infections & toxins can also contribute to leaky gut...it is a multi-factoral issue...
Slippery elm & marshmallow root are inexpensive herbs that can be brewed into tea or taken in bulk powder (make your own capsules, or sprinkle on food).

So how do I know if the ones I'm taking contain fungus??

Proteolytic enzymes are used for a different reason than digestion. They decrease inflammation and scar tissue in the body and should be taken on an empty stomach.
For help with digestion from protein or any other food you need regular digestive enzymes. Digest Gold is a very good one. Vitacost or Iherb carry it. If you need help digesting fats, Lipo Gold is great.

Gluten free, yes.
Marshmallow root and slippery elm are in Repairvite, too.

It usually says if it contains fungus like aspergillus on the ingredients label.

Often the company will say the source on the label, but not always.
The only way to know for sure is to call the manufacturer and ask, if the source of the enzymes on the label is unclear.
