I went back to the er today because I developed a high fever and chills in addition to my abdomen pain. CT scan showed inflamed small intestine. Since I had a fever and I wasn't getting better they admitted me.
They have me on IV Zosyn. Has anyone heard of this? Hoping I don't get a herx reaction on top of all of this. My fever broke but I am starting to feel hot again.
They are giving me an anti inflammatory because my inflammation is high and also an anti clotting medicine.
I am really nervous about what's going on. My right side hurts so bad when you touch it. I have me er had any gastrointestinal issues.

I hope you get answers....and relief soon. Posted by Razzle (Member # 30398) on :
Zosyn is an antibiotic. Your pain and inflammation may be from an abcess trying to form in your abdomen...
It is good you went back to the hospital when you got the high fever...an intestinal abcess can kill you if not treated immediately.
The anti-inflammatory may be a steroid, but you need it right now, and they have you on an antibiotic so should be ok.
Hoping for relief very soon...

Still here feeling horrible. Fever keeps going away then coming back. It's it switch from chills to sweating.
I have developer a horrible headache as well and still have gut pain. The gastro is giving me stuff to flush me out as a step to prep me for a colonoscopy tomorrow. They will check my stool for bad bacteria to see if an infection is causing it. If nothing comes back and all my other blood work is normal he will do the colonoscopy and see if it is caused my too much medicine or if its chrons but he doubts its chrons. He thinks the antibiotics have wiped out my good bacteria and bad bacteria has grown. I really hope I just have an infection. I am still on the IV. I guess it's not possible my body's immune system detected Lyme finally and started a full on body inflammatory response to fight it? I am dreaming I guess. Hopefully these high fevers I have been having has killed off a little of it. I am really worried about my Babesia as well.

Sorry to hear!! I didn't think a colonoscopy would show Crohn's??
And of course, they are not giving you any probiotics! ARRGHH!!

During a colonoscopy, they look at your perfectly clean large intestine with a small camera.
They will look at the entire colon. If they see ulcers or other signs of crohn's or ulcerative colitis, etc., they will let you know. They will see the exact condition of the inside of your colon--signs of diverticulosis, etc. They often take small samples of tissue also to view/test later and help them decide on a diagnosis.
Praying that this will guide the doctors in how to make you well.

Lymetoo,
Yes, Crohn's can sometimes be seen (or discovered in biopsies taken) in a colonoscopy.
Some doctors are skilled enough to get into the last part of the small intestine during the colonoscopy, which is one of the most common sites for Crohn's.
And sometimes Crohn's can affect the large intestine, which of course can be "seen" during the colonoscopy.

Good... I knew it was a disease of the small intestine. I hope if it's there, they will see it.

Just had my colonoscopy. My colon looks fine but it still looks inflamed in my right intestine.
They took samples and sent them off.
My lower right abdominal pain is no where near what it was since being on the Zosyn. Which really makes me think it was a bad bacteria.
However, just to be safe they are putting me on IV Flagyl and Cipro which will cover both of the situations. They are keeping me tonight again.
