I'm interested in finding out if DE is useful in killing ticks in the yard. Anyone?

I also see that the food grade DE is sometimes used by humans and put on pets.

Youngest bit again :-( Monday
I want to move, but where?????

It may work. I know it works for fleas.

Faithful moved to Colorado to get away from mosquitoes and ticks.

I believe it will kill ticks but it has to be dry and make contact.

A friend of mine puts it on her dog to keep ticks off and believes it works. She also put it on an embedded tick on her dog and the tick dropped off in less then 5 minutes.

I wouldn't use it for tick removal myself as I think it could cause the tick distress and perhaps increase pathogen transmission. Still it did get rid of the tick on her dog!

Sorry to hear your youngest got bit again.

It will work on ticks. I have used it in my dog's pen to keep them away. I also use it to worm my chickens. I also put it where they dust for mites.

Make sure you buy food grade DE as your dogs will eat just about anything outside and the stuff you buy at the hardware stores has lots of chemicals in it.

It can irritate your dog's skin so be careful if you put it directly on them.

Lymetoo,

Did you read the testimonials??

I think I'm going to give it a try!

Here is a Lyme testimonial and there are MANY parasite testimonials:

"Lyme Disease

I have had Lyme Disease for many years, plus Rocky Mtn. Spotted fever and Erlichia....I have spent YEARS in unbearable pain....I started taking DE last week, and for the first time in almost 2 years I could kneel down and get back up without help....it seems too good to be true, but the Lord works in mysterious ways! I have been sleeping better and seem to have more energy during the day. Thanks!! Cathi"

It's probably killing yeast for them too. I've been taking the kind from the feed store, but maybe I shouldn't do that!

Did you find a small bottle of it on there? I can't tell which one is for ingesting. They are all several pounds each. That would last about 10 yrs!

Lymetoo,

How long have you been taking it?

Yes, get the good food grade kind!!!

I got mine from Earthworks and I have been taking a tablespoon every day in a glass of water away from meds/supplements for several months. It makes me feel better. I hope that it is helping me in all the ways that I read about.

It is supposed to be good for your skin, bones, hair, blood, detoxing, you name it! It not only keeps you regular but even kills parasites! [spinning smile]

Just be sure to not breathe in the dust if you should have a spill.

I bought my food grade DE from amazon.com.

I'm going to try the Earthworks 10 lb. bag. They are all food grade at that site I believe.

They have so many interesting testimonials that I'm kind of excited to try it!! It's time to get rid of those parasitic critters once and for all (I hope!)

dbpei, so if I take meds at breakfast and dinner, I could take the DE after lunch maybe? Do you take one dose per day? Does it really taste okay in water?

Lymetoo, you can try the 2.5 lb jug. Some for you and some for door jams, around windows, etc to keep ants and other bugs out. In dry times I'm also going to spread on the lawn closest to my home. Also by the wood's edge.

Yes we take it too! Love that stuff!

My friend wrote this recipe

We use this recipe to get my little ones to eat it.

Wow... I live in an apartment so I don't need any for outdoors.. really not even in the aptm. No bugs around here for the most part.

Sheesh.. 2.5 lbs is a lot

I'll check Amazon.

Maybe it's cheaper to buy from the first site. Here is one on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/ToxiClenz-Wisdom-The-Ages-10/dp/B00198JXW8/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_5?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369451166&sr=1-5&keywords=diatomaceous+earth+food+grade

LAX... been using it off and on for a few months. Noticed nothing really.

You may think it's a lot, but if you're taking a tablespoon per day, you'll use it up.
There are other choices that cost less than the one you posted.

I made a shaker for it from an empty plastic bottle of Kraft Grated Parmesan.

Diatomaceous Earth, 12oz Shaker, $11.39

ViagrowTM Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade, 1 Lb, $3.99 + $7.00 shipping
(An extra bag of DE adds $1.00 shipping.)

Diatomaceous Earth, 3 lbs. Powder, $15.99

The prices are all over the place.
Search for diatomaceous earth to find multiple sizes available from multiple vendors.
If "food grade" is not in the title, it may be in the description.

Laxlover, you can take the DE mixed with water an hour or two away from food and meds. It tastes like dirt - not too pleasant, but not horrible either.

Lymetoo, you can sprinkle it in your house plants and you can use it for cleaning a stainless steel sink. I used some to clean a silver brooch that had started to tarnish recently, by making a paste. Speaking of paste, you can use it to make a facial mask for your skin. It is amazing stuff.

I don't know why, but I bought this one:

Diatomaceous Earth, 3 lbs. Powder, $15.99
http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Diatomaceous-lbs-Powder/dp/B001THVH9G/

I think I'll use the other DE that I have for cleaning! Should work great!

DE can be found at your local big box retailer, even if they claim they don't have it. It's in the pool section, it's used in swimming pool filters. Much more cost effective to purchase this way 10# for about $12. Wear a mask when spreading out on the yard/garden and spread around the perimeter as well. Must be dry to be effective. I've used it for years. Kills fleas very well...not sure re: ticks.

Yes, but I think it's safest to get food-grade. I bought some for $1 a pound at our local feed store, but I'm giving that up for the real thing.

Don't ever ingest or give your animals anything but food grade DE. The stuff you use in the pools can be used in the gardens but NEVER for human or animal consumption.

I have been using D.E. for about a month now and feel that it is quite effective for yeast and parasites- in conjunction with other things.

Good to hear, desertwind! Thanks!
