I'm wondering what form of Artemisinin people had the most progress with. I've only taken Allergy Research Group Artemisinin. I've heard of Artemisia annua and Liposomal Artemisinin. I'd love to hear your experience with these specific forms or anything that cleared Babs for you.

I'm currently taking ARG Super Artemisinin and Hopkinton Drug Liposomal Artemisinin.

Herxing my face off.

The liposomal form increases absorption. Artemisinin should be taken with fats.

Next I'm going to try Artesenuate. The breakdown of artemisia compounds goes artemisinin - artesenuate - artemether.

Artemether is very strong and is part of the drug Coartem.

Artemisia annua (the whole herb as opposed to constituent) does not have the same rapid parasite clearance property as Artemisinin. It is a much milder treatment and may not eradicate enough organisms to bring you to remission.

However, whole herbs are much less likely to create resistance, and even confer some protection against resistance when given with drugs and/or herbal constituents.

I think I went TMI here, but I hope it helps.

My arteminisin says to take on an empty stomach.

I wonder what the difference might be in the different types. I take Researched Nutritionals Art.

You know, faithful, I've heard that too. Does it reach a higher concentration in the blood if not mixed and digested with food? I don't know.

I take almost everything with food because I'm so concerned about nausea and stomach pain, either of which can set me back for days.

I think Researched Nutritionals is fine.

OK now I am reading (from various sources including cancer sites) that Artemisinin is fat-soluble and is best taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of natural fat.

What unnatural fat do they think I'm taking it with? My body lotion?

I guess they mean partially hydrogenated oils, the Frankensteined fats.

you need a script for hopkington drug? How is it written so I can ask my doctor for it. Thanks so much!

No script needed.

I forget their Web site. You'll have to Google it.

Another option is the gel from HepaPro. It combines all 3 forms of art I think. You just rub 1/8 teaspoon on your feet per dose.

Lip. ART is way stronger then any other form of ART I have taken. Four times stronger according to my LLMD.

I get mine from a compounding pharmacy.

I take Artemix which has 50mg of artemesinin, 40 mg artemether and 40mg of artesunate. Artemether is in Coartem.

If I take it along with LipoPhos EDTA, it is very powerful.

Wow! You are all full of great information and very helpful! All of these options are just what I was looking for. I like the idea of a gel option as well, lord knows I don't need another pill to swallow! I am looking forward to trying these because Mepron does nothing for me anymore.

Researched Nutritionals Art also has anti parasitics in it.

If you have mepron resistance, try malarone.

Nefferdun -- Yes it is the artemix gel I was thinking of -- just couldn't remember the name at the time I posted. Can be ordered from HepaPro.com

Is anyone getting better with the liposomal art ?

Straight artemisinin did nothing for us after taking it for a year. It seemed to hit the babs a little bit when my kids did it with mepron/zith for a year but my son still tested positive for babs at the end of a year.

There was a huge difference for us with the Dr. K cocktail which uses Biopure artemisinin and Biopure Lipohealth, blended together for 4 minutes with a small amount of water to make the liposomal form. Other herbs are then added, included grapefruit juice and more water to ensure that the body does not become resistant to it. Symptoms of babs are normally improved for us within a few doses and we can normally eradicate babs within a few months on the cocktail.

The issue with many of us in endemic areas is that babesia is the most common coinfection carried by mosquitoes so you are easily reinfected. We always feel much better in winter b/c of no reinfections!

Have you tried Coartem? Just curious.....That really made a big difference for me.

Tickbattler -- Do you have any proof that babesia is carried by mosquitoes? I am pretty sure all the medical literature says ticks are the only carriers.

Bea - I don't deny that you won't find any mainstream medical literature stating this but as you know the literature is WAY behind the facts. For example, you will still see babesiosis referred to in the medical literature as a "rare" disease.

I have spent a lot of time on this subject (transmission of lyme and coinfections by other vectors than ticks) over the past two years as I have been trying to get my family back to full health. I started noticing that by the end of each winter we would all be feeling good but then when spring came, we would get sick again. We live in one of the worst areas in the country for lyme/coinfections.

I strongly believe that the majority of the mosquitoes around here are carrying lyme or one or more of the coinfections and are reinfecting us. I have many reasons for this:

1. Dr. Mercola's article about lyme no longer being a tick-borne disease but rather an insect-borne disease. He cites Dr. K*** in the article. Please read this for the details:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/02/05/dr-dietrich-klinghardt-on-lyme-disease.aspx

2. I have found mainstream literature describing cases of lyme from horse fly bites...not any on babesia yet but there is much less known about babesia than lyme. Just as it is now FINALLY a reportable disease, I expect someday they will figure out that it is carried by other insects.

3. My practiioner who is very experienced in EDS screening can determine by testing us when we have a new infection. She can also test mosquitoes and ticks to see if they are carrying the infection by detecting the frequencies of the infection (even if the mosquito or tick is dead, the bacteria frequencies can still test in them).

4. I have observed symptoms appearing within a day or two of mosquito bites in my children. The bites that caused the issues are often more red and inflamed than normal mosquito bites. The mosquitoes that caused these issues have been tested and found to carry one or more of the infections. Their symptoms normally improve fairly quickly if they start taking the Dr. K lyme cocktail.

An example of symptoms appearing after a bite: last fall our babysitter was helping one evening and a mosquito got into the house and bit her twice. (She had been previously tested by our practitioner and was found not to have lyme/coinfections). That night she had a hard time sleeping and felt short of breath and was having heart issues. I told her to start the Agrisept (GSE) because I suspected babesia. She did and her symptoms eventually went away but she had to be careful not to ramp up too fast or she would have a large herx. We had saved the mosquito and took it to my EDS practitoner who tested it and found it to be carrying babesia and bartonella. For some reason the bartonella did not appear to be transmitted with the bites but the babesia did.

5. Babesia seems to be the most common infection transmitted by the moquitoes based on the many mosquitoes I have tested and based on symptoms observed after bites. I don't think that it is coincidental that it is a cousin to malaria which is transmitted by mosquitoes.

6. Last year my kids were reinfected anywhere from 6 to 9 times based on testing each month with our EDS practitioner. This past fall was the worst time of our lives...two of my kids developed PANDAS or PANS symptoms and my daughter started getting RA and couldn't walk well (caused by EBV)...I am guessing because of the assault on the immune system from the reinfections. By January, all were testing free of lyme but still battling parasites and EBV and CMV. The PANS symptoms are mostly gone and my daughter is playing tennis and back at school. My son has improved but did backslide a bit after the recent reinfections (two mosquito bites that we know of) this spring.

Sorry - this is the article that goes into more detail on mosquitoes carrying babesia, lyme and coinfections.....

Researched Nutritionals packs the biggest punch I've gotten, and I've tried a variety over the years.

Interesting stuff.
deserwind-no haven't tried coartem yet, I don't think my LLMD agrees I still have babesia...so I may have a problem getting her to prescribe it.

Lmednva-Research Nutritionals...is this artemisinin? or another form?
