The photos I've seen of Bartonella rashes show long, extended lines. Last year I had a mysterious rash under one arm, consisting of short lines, more like bars--about a half-inch long a little less than a quarter-inch wide. They were oriented in different directions.

I showed a dermatologist, who didn't know what to make of it. It didn't occur to me that it might be related to the many tick bites I've had over the past couple of years. But now I wonder. Does this sound like it could have been Bartonella (or something else)?

Yes. It does. They can look like anything. Most of the time they are darker colored red than a scratch would look.

Some bart can cause what you describe, though I can't diagnose you of course.

Here are some pics that may interest you?

Yes, I agree based on that brief description. My son had some rashes on his face, then back. His PCP thought they were "stretch marks" from growing so fast. How ridiculous is that? The skin can't keep up with the muscleskeletal system?

He is being treated and they have reddened and are up and down his back and now upper dorsals.
