My husband doesn't believe that my tick bite could be causing my current joint swelling and arthritic symptoms.

I have seen a lot of websites with lists of symptoms that list joint pain and joint swelling, but is there an actual article explaining WHY Lyme Disease causes arthritis?

This is easy enough to google. Here is one:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17009305

That ought to be scientific enough for him.

You will notice Steere is one of the authors. In general he is a lyme denier so cannot trust his publications in total, and maybe if your husband is really into denial, you ought to find an article by someone who is more competent/honest in the totality of his/her work, just in case he goes searching the medical literature, some of which is bogus.

Thank you Poppy. I believe my doctor, but I still don't understand WHY the disease makes me feel this way or HOW the bacteria works, so I can't explain it to my husband. That link will help. I welcome any other helpful educational pieces. Thank you.

THE BIOCHEMISTRY OF LYME

Authors of this article correctly state that the lyme toxin is like botulism - "similar to that of botulinum." For frame of reference:

Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and is the most powerful neurotoxin yet discovered. . . .

He doesn't have to know WHY, just know/believe that it IS!

Remind him that "love, honor & cherish" - especially "honor" includes BELIEVING each other, too.

Tell him to search the web - these symptoms are very common. A lot of us have to deal with all this pain on our own, I hope he comes around!!!

Joint pain is common and you may develop bouts of severe joint pain and swelling. It seems to me that most people's knees are likely to be affected, but the pain can shift from one joint to another.
