Most Americans are severely deficient in magnesium, not calcium. Taking mag will protect your bones .. not the calcium!

Indeed that is true, in addition vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are also essential for good bone health.

And yet our bones do contain calcium, and calcium is an important electrolyte for muscle (read: heart) and nerve activity.
Please don't take the "calcium lie" to mean you do not need any calcium!
I think the important point, though, is that magnesium is just as important. And most MD's neglect to inform their patients on this.

If you get your mag levels up the calcium should fall into place. Yes, we need calcium, but not in the amounts we've been told. It should be 2 to 1 mag over calcium, not the other way around.
Yes, D3 and K2 are essential, but we don't need as much D3 as they are telling us either. Again, if you get the mag level right, the D3 will get higher.

I guess my body didn't read that... I took tons of magnesium and a Vit. D supplement, but my Vit. D level kept dropping...
I know I was absorbing the magnesium, because when I didn't take it, my muscles didn't work right (foot & leg cramps, constipation, etc.).
I think it is more complicated than just telling everyone to take 2:1 magnesium to calcium...
Because I know I have 2 VDR mutations, I'm sure this plays some role in my low Vit. D level and strange side-effects if I take more than tiny amounts of Vit. D (horrendous insomnia).

K2 prevents vitamin D toxicity and also puts calcium where it is needed.
Magnesium, Calcium, D3, K2, Silica. All needed for bone strength. Most people get enough calcium in their diet.

Thanks Lymetoo... I do appreciate the info on the importance of magnesium...
Essential Fatty Acids are also needed for bone strength.
My DH has seen his bone density improve with the addition of Cod Liver Oil to his supplements. The magnesium, vitamin D & calcium didn't do much for him until he started the fish oil.
