I am 35 and have low estrogen. I also have some PCOS type of thing going on. My DHEA (regular not the DHEA-S) is high, Androsterione is high and estrogen low.

I am not sure if the problem is coming from adrenals or ovaries. I have many symptoms from these hormone inbalances such as facial hair, only spotting for period, acne, etc.

I am going to new doc in a couple of weeks as I suspect he will try to give me BC pill since that is what they do for problems like this. He also does bioidentical hormones in his practice.

I would assume that I would be better off doing bioidentical estrogen, with progesterone of course, but am not sure if it will help in the same way the BC pill does.

Anyway, as far as lyme which would be better? I will be treating lyme in late Nov when I can get into see the LLMD. In the meantime, I have to do something about my hormones as I have lost 1/2 of my hair and have bald spots showing now.

thanks
suz

You would think that bio-identical would always be better than synthetic, but I'm not sure they can do it that way.

Maybe it doesn't work for PCOS.

You could do either. Bioidentical is usually better for you, but it can be tough to find the right balance. I tried bioidenticals after having a hysterectomy ad I just couldn't get balanced so I opted for a very low dose oral estradiol, which has worked well.

I recently tried adding in transdermal progesterone and Pitts been rough, horrible depression and hot flashes, so I ditched it for now.

This book was recommended to me. http://phulicohanmd.com/thenaturalhormonemakeover/

Thanks for your replies. It is hard to find balance when you are still cycling. I would imagine it would be much easier if I had already gone through menopause, but either way I have to do something.

Maybe I will try the pill for awhile and see how it goes. The scary part is that for Pcos issues you have to take Yasmin, or some of the newer ones and they have a higher risk of stroke. Kind of scares me since I have a strong family history of that.

Sucks to be dealing with this on top of the lyme issues, but hopefully soon I can get these hormones leveled out.

Does anyone else with lyme take BC pill?

I take a half of a loloestrin in the morning and one half of a progesterone (nor-qd) in the afternoon. I take this continually without monthly breaks.

It is a really low dose of estrogen but enough to regulate my hormone craziness and eliminates my monthly cycle. It also got rid of my monthly PMS Lyme flare.

I also have pcos and suffered from pretty bad migraines before starting this regimen. It has worked well for me.

Do not do the YAZ!!! I have a friend who got severe candida from it and severe acne...scars and all.
