Drink lots of fluids (water, fruit juice, tea, clear soup broths and non-caffeinated carbonated beverages) - Inhale warm moist air, Use a humidifier. Steam and hot showers may loosen the mucus.
I also think a dark room, and a cold facecloth helps a lot.
Natural Home Remedies for Upper Respiratory Infection
• Taking ginger tea several times in a day is one of the most effective natural home remedies for Upper Respiratory Infection. Prepare the tea by boiling one or two teaspoons of freshly ground ginger in water for about ten minutes. Add some honey in it to make this home remedy more effective.
• Gargling with lukewarm salt water can help relieve throat discomfort caused by such infections. Breathing steamed air is also beneficial in the home treatment of Upper Respiratory Infection.
• Drinking a combination of garlic oil and onion juice mixed in water is one of the most therapeutic natural home remedies for Upper Respiratory Infection, particularly head cold. You can also have garlic soup.
• Having mixture of milk and roasted asafetida (2 mg) is a highly beneficial natural cure for Upper Respiratory Infection. Consumption of warm milk mixed with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder also serves as a good natural remedy.
• Boil some water and add some eucalyptus leaves in it. Inhaling this infusion helps a great deal in reducing symptoms like nasal congestion. Another alternative is to place a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a clean cloth and sniff it.
• Herbal teas prepared from echinacea, licorice root, elm bark etc serve as excellent Upper Respiratory Infection home remedies. Add some honey as well.
• Taking a combination of lemon juice extracted from one lemon and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water is a highly beneficial in healing Upper Respiratory Infection naturally. Follow this therapy for a few days by taking this mixture about one or two times in a day.
• Consuming a combination of onion juice and honey is useful in providing relief by soothing the throat during throat infection. Combination of carrot juice can also help in controlling the infection.
I get both of these myself from time to time, get lots of rest.
I hope you feel better soon!

Sambucol elderberry extract found in most drug stores for the URI.
Use a Neti pot to rinse sinuses.
GSE Nose spray which has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
I remember sammy using Nutribiotic brand, 2 sprays 3-4 times daily.

Avoid dairy as it increases mucous.
Neti pot using distilled water and you may want to put a drop or two of GSE in it as well.

All AWESOME suggestions!
Things that help me:
-steamy shower then using the neti right after
-hot lemon with honey, cayenne pepper and fresh ground ginger. (steep the ginger-like a tea)
-some form of eucalyptus aromatherapy. Either the chest rub or the room spray.
-lots of rest
(easier said than done, I know, haha)
Things to stay away from, in my experience, any OTC cold remedies. The pseudoephedrine makes it harder to recover, IMO.
Best of luck getting rid of your cold.

Anti-parasitic drops that have walnut hulls, cloves, etc. One of my herbalist doctors I saw years ago said it would loosen up sinuses and phlegm.

I fix a spray bottle (empty saline one) add 1/2 cup distilled water 1/4 tsp sea salt and 1/4 tsp peroxide and squirt it up my nose about 4 to 5 times a day. It stings like crazy but helps if it doesn't sting then add less water or more salt and peroxide.
After the infection I continue to use this about once a week.
Don't mind the sinus thing as bad as the off balance and ear problems that come with it.
Hope you are well soon.

Fenugreek & Thyme tea or capsules help to decongest the sinuses, thin mucus, and kill bacteria/fungi/viruses.
Thieves essential oil applied topically on the cheeks & forehead (use a carrier oil such as olive oil to dilute it, as it is quite strong on sensitive facial skin; avoid getting it in the eyes), inhaled/diffused, and/or rubbed on the feet. This oil blend is antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral & antiparasitic.

I have great results recently with; GSE Nasal Spray Colloidal Silver Nasal Spray Diflucan.
I think fungus is a big contributor. Nasal irrigation use to make me worse but since starting on the above tx. irrigation is helping.
