I received my IGenex results and the following were positive with one +

IgM
23-25kDa +
41kDa +
83-93kDa +

IgG
41kDa +
58kDa +
39kDa IND

The results list IgM as POSITIVE and IgG as NEGATIVE. So.... now what?

Now what?

Breathe. Be glad you have such a clear test that (I suspect) accompanies symptoms that drove you get the test in the first place.

Realize that most regular doctors will not understand the complexities of lyme, know how to treat it (combination treatment required) -

- or know that you should also be assessed for OTHER tick-borne infections that often travel with lyme and require different treatments.

Treatment may not be easy to arrange but you are in a good state with some options. Good luck.

1. Find a ILADS-educated lyme literate doctor (a LLMD or LL ND - naturopathic doctor). They MUST be "ILADS educated"

Read this:

Western Blot Explanation
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/42077

You may even want to print it out and read it several times. You have Lyme. No doubt about it.

"With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.

Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.

But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.

Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result.

Response to antibiotics is the same if either is positive, or both. Some antibodies against the borrelia are given more significance if they are IgG versus IgM, or vice versa." -- Dr C of MO

Up for winesnob? What does that mean? Sorry, I am new.

I had another question for you guys. I also had test for the coinfections run by Quest and they were all negative.

I know that the WB test through Quest and Lab Corps does not seem to be recommended as being as accurate or sensitive as the IGeneX test is.

Is this also true for the test for coinfections? Should I be having coinfection test run by a different lab than Quest or is their negative result something I should trust?

Thanks for your help.

'Up' means this thread was posted on to bring it back to the top, so you would see the replies/ help.

Who ordered the a Igenex test for you?
Have you seen a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor? (LLMD)

There are some in your area- they don't, however, take insurance.

Thanks for the explanation.

I had an ID Dr. order the test and I paid for the test out of pocket. The ID ordered it the same time they ordered all the coinfection test through Quest Diagnostics Lab.

The ID Dr. has experience with Lyme because they came from the East Coast and did their residency and worked in an area where they saw and treated Lyme.

Quest is not good for coinfections either.

What lab(s) are better for coinfection testing? Should the coinfection testing be done before any treatment for Lyme begins?
