Llmd just prescribe it with rifampin. Haven't treated Bart yet--waiting for galaxy result but starting to treat now.

I have heard good things about this as an alternative to doxycycline. An LLMD (neurologist) that I saw briefly said this was the drug he usually prescribed with rifampin as opposed to doxy since it did not cause nausea. It may be pricier, though.
I wish I had known about it when I was treating for bart. I felt horrible with doxy.

Thx guys! Did it help you desertwind? This is my last oral abx attempt. Gonna do Iv if this doesn't help. Has been 18months and nothing has worked.

I also took it as an alternative to doxy. Efficacy seemed about the same, but as others have said, a little easier on the gut.
My only problem with it was that I had trouble finding it at a local pharmacy. But that was two years ago so hopefully whatever that was has been ironed out by now.

I think any form of doxy is absolute junk. When I first got lyme in 1990, before we knew it was lyme disease, I was put on doxy (alone). Took away all the symptoms for about 4 days. Then the symptoms came roaring back while I was still on doxy. Wasted precious time. I think doxy should be tried, convicted and shot. But it certainly has helped others, as your other helpful answers above and fellow lyme colleagues (I was busted for using a more playful term) write.
I have been on a number of oral combinations. Here is one of the powerful combinations: omniceff, flagell and ketek.
Here are powerful intramuscular (IM, i.e. shots) antibiotics:
Rocephin (vial mixed with lidocaine)- as good as IV Rocephin. The generic, ceftriaxone, can be as good but can vary widely to the point of ineffectiveness.
Bicillin-LA. Almost as good as Rocephin. But must avoid putting it in the vein? artery? or it can be deadly. Only with Hashem's help did I recover from an errant shot.
If you are going to get intravenous (IV), the gold standard is still Rocephin.

I had been sick for close to 10 years maybe longer - chronic neuro. Went through multiple neuro surgeries and extensive steroid treatments which made me even sicker over the past 3 years.
For me Doryx was not crap but in combination gave me my life back. Been on a variety of meds but w/Doryx I slowly got better. The benefit is that it is gentler on your gut so you can,hopefully, tolerate a higher dose.
I coupled it w/a cyst buster and continued Bab's tx' and other meds /supp.s. Only when I was able to dose up to 400 mg.s a day did I start to really see a difference. My gut could not handle 400 mg.s of the regular doxy but did fine w/400 mg.s of Doryx.
Everyone is different but this was my life saver. Not a true success story yet but I am 4 months off of abx.s and feeling great. Best of luck to you,

It's amazing how we all react differently to different antibiotics and regimens. Now, I had used doxy alone. Maybe had the doxy been combined with another antibiotic or two....? No, I don't want to be that open minded.... Just kidding.
But Desertwind, you and the other people who responded call to mind a good point. An antibiotic alone that is ineffective, or slightly effective, can become quite powerful when combined with another antibiotic, two or three. So thank you for the reality check.
Now if the American government put as much effort into finding the cure for lyme as it puts into developing weapons - such as the search for an expedient biological weapon that lead to the [inadvertent?] spread of lyme disease from Plum Island (an attorney wrote a book presenting strong evidence on this topic) - then we'd all be cured.
