We all know there are 2 sets of guidelines or standards of care.

My question -- does anyone know what the current status of the NGC (National Guidelines Clearinghouse) is on both sets of guidelines?

IDSA Guidelines -- The Clinical Assessment, Treatment and Prevention of Lyme Disease, Human Granuloytic Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis: Clinical Guidelines by the Infectious Disease Society of America

httP://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/43/9/1089.full

The link above is what appears when you go to the IDSA website and it is a 2006 medical journal article.

My specific question is what ever happened for the call to remove the outdated guidelines?

Yes. The IDSA guidelines are still in the National Guideline Clearinghouse:

http://www.guideline.gov/search/search.aspx?term=lyme

The IDSA considers the review that was done to settle CT Attorney General Blumenthal's lawsuit to be a full review, qualifying the guidelines to remain in the Clearinghouse for an additional 5 years. Under that reasoning, the guidelines would stay until 2016. (Never mind that, in 1/3 of the recommendations, the panel said, "Now next time you update, change this and this and this...." Did the panel think it would be soon, or 5 years away?)

Meantime, the ILADS guidelines are not in the Clearinghouse, having been removed after 5 years, in 2010. This does not mean that the ILADS guidelines are to be disregarded, it just means they should be reviewed in the light of more recent studies.

Rumor has it that ILADS is working on an update, and a recent rumor said that the IDSA will be working on one soon, as well. We shall see.

Nice to see ILADS being progressive and keeping current with the science. That is what will ultimately win this debate.
