For those who have muscle pain between the shoulders and upper back, is it muscle knots that are causing the pain or are the muscles flat but just tender to the touch? Thanks!

Im trying to understand this too. With me its joint pain in the hands.
Will this pain go away when the lyme is gone or is there structural or cellular damage?
when I have had upper back pain massage has really helped.
I also use a pain pill once in a while called Diclofenac. Much better than ibuprofen.
I think that microbs can cause lactic acid to build up and that may be causing some pain. Also pain can bring stress and stress can lead to muscle knots or tightness

i'm just so sore all over that if you even hug me, i cry.
you can press just mildy on my arms, all over my back, and it hurts.
don't know what causes it. been diagnosed with severe fibro but we all know fibro is really lyme.
doc just says exercise. well how can you exercise when you're in such pain?

Exercise found to treat chronic disease conditions better than drugs, with no toxicity
"Sports medicine doctors, the few physicians who actually know something about both exercise and medicine, ought to be leading this transformation."
For me, it was a matter of connecting with a treatment that worked for me. That was oral clindamycin, 150mg, 2x/day. That stopped all my fibro muscle pain. It worked for 5 years. Now I do curcumin capsules.
Btw, the clinda still works for other infections, so the borrelial resistance is not matched by resistance from other infections, thank goodness!
For back pain, a good tool is the Equalizer massager - it's shaped like a long triangle with two gentle heads vibrating side to side at the top - you hold it with one hand to "vacuum" the back, as I like to think of it, and that eases back pain.
Before I found out it was Lyme, I used to put myself in the hot shower all the time and do gentle stretches afterwards.
I also learned modified yoga positions - ie, how to relax my limbs on supportive surfaces so I didn't have to hold them up.
And I did gentle swimming with torso float and mask and goggles so I didn't have to turn my head to breathe.
I now include gentle stretches in the pool. I agree with Carmen that lactic acid can build up and cause muscle pain. That's why we've got to help the blood circulation to happen.
I actually fixed a frozen pelvis in the pool that way over 9 months time - just kept stretching all the muscles to get bloodflow in, waste products out.
What we need to do is figure out how to adapt whatever the practice is so it fits for us - with physical support, gentleness, etc.
Play around with your body and see what practices ease the pain, then do more of that, has been my way preLyme dx and post dx.
Also, taking enough mg might help relax muscles.

My kids (don't have lyme) use a homeopathic remedy to assist them when they work out and after snowboarding.. its a combo remedy that they swear by. Its called Muscle and Joint and I assume that it helps with lactic acid. Its available from Dave's Health and Nutrition in Salt Lake City. They will mail it to you.. I haven't tried it but I wonder if it might give some relief.

well for me, the last time i walked around the lake, i was in tears by the time i got to the car. my lower back felt like it was being stabbed with a knife and getting into the car was an exercise itself. my fusion is not low with comfortable seats but even sitting for the drive home hurt.
that walk hurt me for days. so i've backed off until i can do it again.
i was in the kitchen this morning leaning over the counter and my back spasmed so hard i jerked all over. not fun...

Carmen,
Is the product you are referring to at Dave's Health called "Recovery Formula?"
I couldn't find anything else you might be referring to and the website doesn't have a search function.
I have incredible amount of pain most of the time(it is in the bones, hips, and nerves) and am looking for something to help other than nsaids and tylenol.
