I've taken biaxin in the past (1-2 years ago) & have had good success with it. Obvious herxing and symptoms clearing.
But my doctor restarted it 1 week ago and right from the get go I got whacked. Obvious herx symptoms to me were severe joint pain (which have cleared) & flu-like symptoms (which have cleared).
The not so obvious herx symptoms have been that my nervous system feels wired like I'm on speed/crack!
I can't sleep at night, body is buzzing, loss of appetite, & weight loss (due to sped up metabolism), etc.
I've had herbs cause this for me & I stayed on them forever thinking it would eventually clear but it never did. Stopped the herb and felt good. This leaves me to believe some drugs/herbs can agitate/wire the bugs and nervous system.
I understand the bacteria can cause these symptoms as they die off... but it feels more like the drug at this point than a herx.

I had great success with Biaxin but it did buzz me up BIG time. So much that I took the full dose in the morning or I could never sleep.
For me the buzzed up, wired feeling was a side effect of the med.

I had the same problem on Biaxin. For me it was like extreme anxiety energy. I felt like I had to literally run myself to death to work it off even though I felt really physically unwell. I adjusted to it after a few weeks.

Common side effect of Biaxin is feeling charged up with a lot of energy. I too had to take my full days dose in the am or could not sleep.

Yes that was a horrible side effect for me too. Had to stop. Can tolerate zith though

It took about 4 days after stopping Biaxin for me to return to normal after being revved up by it.
Each day got a little better.

Biaxin was the one abx during my first 3++ years of tx that I made the most progress on.
The first year of Biaxin was progress and yes there was herx periods, but I was walking and talking and living my life.
Then something changed big time suddenly, it stopped working and then every abx from that time forward became poison to me.
My LLMD tried putting me on it because I told him the one of many abx my PCP had me on and it helped was biaxin. My body totally rejected it this time.

That's what frightens me. That one day I'll stop responding to abxs all together. :/
I've heard & read that you can come back to some abxs after being off them for 2+ years & they can work effectively. I don't know.
The issue of resistance is no joke in a chronic Lyme patient like myself who only gets well while on abxs

I just experienced something that very well could have been a result called abx resistance. The first couple months of this year.
Came down with UTI and my PCP started at the bottom and we worked up to the 3rd abx and nothing. Did not touch the bacteria?
I finally had to do research and try to figure out what other bacteria I could have picked up in a casino jetted tub. I then used my rife machine for tx.
But it kept dying off and coming back. I finally found berberine that killed it off. Was it actually a bacteria, or was it lyme & co was invited to the urinary party?
So I'm just not sure what was going on? It could have been from 3+++ yrs of abx? I just don't know.
But that's my blessing (IMHO) of having a rife machine. I can use it, if I know the bacteria, protozoa, virus etc.
I believe lyme bacteria is way down. Bart & Babs I'm still chasing them around and around.
