Is almond milk unsweetened good to drink? Or is it best to have Raw Milk from a reputable local farm... [confused]

IMO, any of the "other" milks that have "natural flavors" are best avoided. That often translates to MSG or other industrialized flavor agent.

It's nearly impossible to buy any "other" milk that is free of additives. Also consider the plastic that it sits in, the lining of the carton, for those self-stable cartons (before opening). They leech all kinds of chemicals.

You can make your own nut milk, though. Softer nuts like walnuts and pecans will work with most good quality blenders. For others, stronger machines would be needed.

More detail here, in the "60 Minutes" video:

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors (that are not likely natural at all);

GMO foods that destroy the GI Tract; Gluten; Dairy.

Raw Milk, from cattle, is another whole topic. I'm not educated enough to talk about that but if you consider it, go out to the diary and see it for yourself.

Also consider Goat's Milk. For those with issues digestion cow's milk (even if raw, it's not going to work for everyone), Goat's Milk might work.

Coconut milk can be a good substitute in recipes. But, many have additives and are in plastic lined cartons, so be careful with all that, too. Even if BPA-free, in plastics, there are many other petroleum / chemicals that can potentially leech into food.

I find coconut cream or oil works just fine to add some creaminess without the coconut milk, too.

Same with other NUT OILS.

Watch out for carrageenan in coconut milk... Trader Joe's I think makes one without it.

Carrageenan, when added to packaged foods, is usually a synthetically altered derivative of seaweed and it can be very harmful to the gut...

Hi Teri [Smile]

Almond milk is a good base for protein drinks and smoothies.

It is yummy to drink by itself too.

Doesn't have many calories, less than regular milk, so doesn't contribute much to daily calorie needs.

Unsweetend coconut water is a favorite drink of mine. Very refreshing when cold.

Hemp milk is another favorite of mine. It's thicker.

Hope you're having a good day today Teri [Smile]

That is the one to watch out for.

I would love to just buy almond milk, but most do have carageenan in them so I have resorted to making my own.

I found a recipe on Honeyville farms webpage that says how to make almond milk from almond flour which is just ground up almonds.

I buy my almond flour from them most of the time.

Honeyvillefarm.com.

Raw milk is wonderful if you can get it in your state.

I didn't know carrageenan was in coconut milk. Carrageenan is the highest source of sulfur - not good for anyone with a CBS mutation.

I was drinking raw camel's milk. I think it was helping me but it is very expensive. I also had to use a separator to get the fat out, which was a hassle.

Camel's milk antibodies are similar to humans, only much smaller.

I've always supported raw milk and have used it when I could get it but now I wonder!

How many animals have lyme and we known that lyme is spead in human breast milk. What about cow and goat milk?

Didn't know about carrageenan...thanks for all responses.
I will watch for that ingredient.

I eat mostly veggies, lentils, etc...nothing processed.

Teri
