I have been taking ceftin for 3 months , no side effects , but haven't really noticed any benefit
Dr tried added Doxy and Bactrim and i had reactions to both. Maybe you guys thinks it was a herx, but dr thinks its reaction....?
My headache and pain was so bad, vision completly blurred out, vomit. no way i could continue those, i would loss my job.
so why does ceftin doing nothing and literally 2 bactrim pills i can't deal... ( I took bactrim 10 years ago for skin and had no issues )
So anyhoo going to try Rifampin.. I am way freaked out about the orange effect...
I do heated yoga and sweat alot... am I going to be staining my clothes/ towels etc.. how intense is this orange thing...?
Also any insight as to why ceftin does nothing and doxy n bactrim make my head explode?
thanks in advance

Ceftin is used for lyme only. Bactrim, and Doxy. to a certain extent, hit the coinfections. So, maybe your reaction was a Babs or Bart die-off? I would be inclined to think Babs or a cousin of it (other protozoans).
Could even be parasites.
But this is just my musings from what I have experienced and have read.
The Rifampin will definitely turn your urine orange. Will you be on Rifampin by itself? If so, it is not recommended. It will not be as effective alone, and could cause resistance issues. Your post is not completely clear, but perhaps you will be continuing the Doxy?
Are you treating under an LLMD?

i take Ceftin only currently .. I only took Doxy for a week months ago , and Bactrim for a week only.
So will be taking Ceftin and Rifampin together.
Yes he is a LLMD.. but I feel like even he is kind of guessing about what antibotics to try on me.
my issues are mostly all neuro/cns

Hi Lucy,
The only thing rifampin changes on me is my urine.
Sweat and tears (lots of both lately...super sweaty!), stay clear.
Rifampin is a gooder. But as stated above, has to be pair with another abx like zith, doxy or mino to prevent your bacteria from becoming resistant to the rifampin.

Thanks Greta.. hmmm I am concerned now because Dr is not pairing with those .. only Ceftin ?
Maybe he wants to see if I can tolerate it first...
I would love to hear that Rifampin is like Ceftin and well tolerated (:
I am also bummed about the no alcohol warning... I am certainly not reckless, but in my work we kind of " need to drink " food pairing , restaurant etc. I enjoy a drink... it actually calms me and makes my feel happy and normal ):

Sorry, I can't tell you it's the same as ceftin.
Rifampin makes me feel more focused. My LLMD gave it to me because it goes deeper and I was still having cognitive issues on just ceftin and doxy. I was told not to take ceftin and rifampin together, but that may be because I'm on doxy too. I'm not sure.
On the plus side, I feel less weak on it. Ceftin just made me sleepy all the time, but it did get rid of my raging headache.
I have not noticed orange sweat at all. Only in my urine, kind of like when you eat beets it can turn stuff purple/pink.
Also, the urine DOES go back to normal color a few hours after taking it. It's not constantly orange.
Rifampin is making me in touch with my angry/assertive side. It's not like a Lyme rage, thank God, but I'm speaking up for myself more (which is good in a lot of ways, just new since I'm so use to feeling weak and put out by everything).

When on Rifampin, I too only noticed the orange effect in urine, though I gather that it does vary from person to person.

I love Rifampin. I always feel better on it. More able to handle stress, concentrate, remember, and less prone to angry outbursts.
Have only noticed changes in urine, not sweat or tears.
I *think* it is usually paired with a macrolide. Not sure if it has to be a macrolide. Maybe Burrascano's guidelines or Dr. H's new book would speak to this.
Rifampin did make me very sleepy at first, but that got better.

it colors stool and urine orange or dark yellow but not the tears or sweat on a dosage of 600mg/d (in my case) don`t worry!

Rifampin changed my urine, for sure. I was a contact wearer at the time I was taking rifampin to fight bart, even using 24 hr sleep in contacts and never had orange in eyes.
Rifampin the first several weeks were rough but then I started feeling better. But a 3 mth run didn't end it. It was back within a months.
Then I did 6 mths (?) and was much better except mental stuff went nutso suddenly....stopped them and within month bam....barts back.
Something really went wrong in that protocol of rifampin. I had been off abx for 7 yrs but I wanted to knock down the bartonella bacteria load and then use my rife machine to try to control it.
I need to go back and read my stuff from 2010? I really think rifampin messed with my wiring, mentally. Didn't start that way but something bad came of it.

Rifampin also stained my teeth so I am pretty sure it was in my urine.
