I'm taking Mepron, Zithromycin, and Tindamax. Earlier this week, I started developing sinus infection symptoms.

Today, I feel wretched: severe congestion, face and upper tooth pain, ears popping and congested, eyes watering, achy everywhere.

Could this be a sinus infection even though I'm on antibiotics? It feels much worse than a cold.

Should I see my ENT, general practitioner, or LLMD?

I have a long history of sinus problems, and had endoscopic sinus surgery and septoplasty in 2010, about 8 months before I was exposed to Lyme.

I'm taking a decongestant and antihistamine, using Veramyst spray, wearing a nose strip, and taking hot showers.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Yes, because the abx you are on do not usually work on sinus infections. Zith could have some action, but you may have an infection it does not hit.

Mepron and tindamax would do nothing.

An antihistamine could be counter-productive. It's very drying and may not allow the sinuses to release.

I would call the ENT.

(PS.. It could be a virus?)

Yes!

I agree with everything Lymetoo says.

Could be a virus.

Could also be fungal.

If it is in the front of your nose, like two elves shoved M&M s up there while you were sleeping, can't breathe through your nose at all, probably viral [Smile]

If it is deep in your head and ears, and you can still breathe through your nose OK, probably fungal.

Obviously I'm no doc, just years of sinus issues and colds.

You can get any kind of infection while on antibiotics.

Don't make the assumption that you're covered for ex. UTI's/sinus infections, etc just because you are on an antibiotic that's usually used for that infection...it could have grown resistant.

I was on Zithromax, Bactrim DS and Bicillin. So, I thought I was covered for every last simple infection that could possibly come along.

Not so! I STILL had a silent UTI that led to serious problems and a hospitalization....it had grown resistant to Bactrim.

Can a doctor test to see if it's viral or fungal?

I have some Diflucan and I'm tempted to take it ...

Thanks for the feedback!

If I were on antibiotics I would be taking Diflucan either way! And incorporate Body Ecology Diet into the mix, too, so that Candida doesn't take hold. Almost worse than the Lyme!
