I have a history of kidney stones and have had three over the past 15 years or so. I currently have a 6 mm kidney stone...too large to pass. The first one since having lyme. I am scheduled for a shock wave lithotripsy this Friday, under anesthesia.
I have had lyme and co-infections for 4.5 years now and in treatment for 4 years. I am all neuro and have an abnormal EEG and brain MRI.
I have had brain shocks (or whatever the heck they are) every single night when trying to fall asleep and have constant 24/7 brain fog and cognitive deficiencies.
I have been researching the internet and am getting a little nervous as to what I am reading...relative to receiving anesthesia with pre-existing brain "issues" (i.e. coma, death, seizures, increased cognitive dysfunction, etc.)!
Any thoughts? Unfortunately, I don't really have other options to explore for eliminating the kidney stone, but, quite frankly, I'm a little scared.

My symptoms are all neuro and I had to have anesthesia 2 days in a row in August.
I did fine. I told the Dr and Anesthesiologist, and wrote on my forms (at the very top with asterisks so it wouldn't be ignored) that I needed fluids prior due to POTS and hypovolemia.
I feel your pain. My first stone was on Halloween. It was truly worse than labor.

I also have neuro-lyme, Babs, Bart and maybe PR. Also had positive SPECT showing brain issues. I had hand surgery in June 2012 and hernia op last May. No issues with either procedure or recovery.
Had my share of kidney stones over the past 10 years, but so far none last four years with lyme treatment.

My MIL just had a large stone that was lodged in her kidney laser'd out,
she was in and out no problem. You will be okay, no worries.

Be sure to talk with your anesthesiologist and let him know your condition. He just might give you a lighter dose to keep you under.

My husband got rid of a large kidney stone by taking "chanca piedra" for 10 days. It dissolved it. Now he takes it regularly to keep those stones away!

I think that I am going to try it. I have read about it and when I, of course, asked my urologist about it, he discounted it's effectiveness.
Gonna try it anyway...after my lithotripsy on Friday...

Will be thinking of you on Friday! You'll do fine! Having lyme makes us more aware of health conditions than the average Joe I think, so that is a plus!
What I mean is, if you are honest and explain why you are nervous etc. I bet they will appreciate your openness.
Better say than someone who has poor lifestyle choices and is high risk because of their lifestyle choices etc.
I hope I'm making sense, I'm having a hard time today with picking the right words.

Tri,
What does your calcium run on CMP. Does it ever run in the high 9's to low 10's? Has it ever been elevated? If ANY of your calcium results run in high 9's or even slightly elevated, you should have them check your parathyroid level.
Kidney stones can be a result of high parathyroid. High parathyroid can cause lots and lots of neurological problems.
