My LLMD wants me to get an oxygen concentrator. anyone use these and do they help?

They help a lot. Hopefully your insurance will cover it. Mind did for 10 months but just pulled their coverage of it. I had to buy a concentrator.

What do you use it for?

I told the dr. that I feel like I never have enough oxygen and that I could sleep forever. He said get and oxygen concentrator. He said get them from Craig's list

I moved from sea level to about 9000 ft a year ago. After 6 months my symptoms were much worse and we assumed the move out of state just knocked down my immune system.

With Babs I did have air hunger but this was much worse. I flew back to see my LLMD and my pulsox was low at sea level so she prescribed oxygen.

As it turned out, the lower pulsox is a combination of air hunger and elevation. I am doing better during the day but not at night. Still have to get on the concentrator during the day sometimes.

I would not buy a second hand concentrator from craigslist. There are hygiene issues with that for one and you may get a unit that needs servicing right away which means you send it off somewhere.

There are 3-5 year warranties on most of them. Best pricing I found is Activeforever.com. Register with them and you will get better pricing.

The oxygen makes a huge difference in how I feel.

Thanks so much, faithful777! Did your insurance cover it?

Only for 9 months. Even though they documented my pulsox at 85, Medicare won't cover it unless I go through breathing treatments which are steroid based.

I just ordered my own concentrator.

Mvdr...

If you are at all interested in pursuing mild hyperbaric treatment now or in the future, you may consider purchasing a concentrator that is powerful enough to be used with a chamber.

The Airsep New Life Intensity, 10 LPM (liters per minute), 20 PSI (Pounds per square inch) is what I recommend, and what I use with my chamber.

The best price I have found is $1350 for a new unit with a 3 year warranty, including tax and shipping (I do not sell concentrators, take commissions, or represent any company).

You would need a prescription to purchase...

Actually, Phoiph, you do not need an Rx to purchase. You can sign a waiver.
