Birdie67 mentioned going in for a CAT scan of her sinuses to check for fungal balls back in Dec. 2013. I'm wanting to know more about fungal balls and if they are the same as a fungal or mold colony living behind a biofilm? Could it be what the radiologist called a "small mucosal retention cyst" on my son's sinus CAT scan?

I have a mucosal retention cyst in my sinus directly above a titanium dental implant done in 2008. I have been trying like crazy to get this addressed.
I have seen 2 ENT's and 2 oral surgeons and nobody thinks it is anything to investigate further. They all claim to see these commonly in about 10% of their patients. Mine is about the size of a thumb nail.
My dentist feels that this cyst is a sign of my body trying to reject the titanium implant directly beneath it. I had a root canaled tooth extracted from that same area last June. I would not be surprised if the cyst is full of bacteria and biofilms.
I believe this might be keeping me ill. I tried ozone treatment for 6 weeks and it did not make a difference for me, unfortunately. I have a lot of buzzing sensations and fuzzy feelings in my head and do feel some inflammation in my sinuses with burning in my face, head and eyes at times.
My nose runs on occasion, but mucous is clear and does not appear to be like you would find with a sinus infection. I am trying to get tested for metal sensitivity by MELISA through my lyme doc.
I know that probably doesn't apply to your son. But biofilms are definitely a possibility here. I have recently started taking nattokinase as well as cholestyramine. I am finding a slight improvement in my symptoms.
Perhaps you could speak to your son's LLMD about both of these. The cholestyramine will help to remove mold toxins and other neurotoxins from the body. The nattokinase will break up biofilms. So hoping that both will help toward getting rid of the cyst - if that is what is keeping me ill.
I hope others will chime in here. I did correspond with someone who had her cyst removed by an ENT and she felt much better!

I just read that a fungal sinus infection can cause whole system and especially CNS symptoms.
There was a treatment cited that seemed simple. Will try to find it for link.
I could not find the link yet, but I remember now that it was a baking soda solution that was used as a nasal rinse. Like Arm & Hammer baking soda, NOT baking powder.
It is anti-fungal. Used for children also, but maybe you can google baking soda for fungal sinus infections to find out the details and how to mix it or buy it.

Thanks for those articles, Marnie. I found an interesting article about this in trying to figure out if this could be my problem.
Does anyone here know if the ENT would be able to tell the difference between a retention cyst and fungal ball by looking at the CT? Or would you need to get in there and take a biopsy of it to know?

You might want to look into using Olive Leaf Extract for your problem. The best one is Seagate brand. See their website at www.seagateproducts.com
