Sorry another question from moi.

As the last three weeks or so (losing count), have been the pits, I noticed I have been extremely thirsty.

Like very very very thirsty.

I has my glucose and fasting glucose checked and they are really good, so diabetes isn't an issue.

Also my electrolytes were checked, they are good also.

I also seem to be able to quench this thirst only with club soda or super cold ice water.

The fizzy seems to help.

Anyone else have this? And what on earth causes this?

Considering I am drinking 4 L (a gallon) of ice water a day and 2 L (1/2 gallon of club soda), I am not really peeing much more than normal.

Any ideas?

Diabetes insipidus?

Hmmm...maybe.

Just read about it on wiki. It has nothing to do with glucose like other diabetes.

Just excessive urination, which I don't have.

BUT interesting, the hormone that causes it is produced by the pituitary and syphillis was listed as a cause of diabetes insipidus.

Lyme ?

I am losing weight this week, drinking so much water, but not peeing more than normal. Where is the water going?
[confused]

Greta - are you on Bactrim? It makes me very thirsty, but it comes and goes. This weekend has been that way.

Just a thought [Smile] .

Are you anemic? Iron deficiency can cause ice craving...which may manifest as thirst...

Thanks for posting this--the diabetes insipidus makes sense.

I've had excessive thirst for three years and all tests are normal.

Three different MDs never took it further. But when on a phone consult one day with LLMD last summer, I told her how desperate this feels.

Off the top of her head--she said try Himalayan salt. I'm so much better now.

I think that the salt replenished my adrenals. In one of the articles I just read, it says DI can be caused by damaged adrenals.

Thank you so much for your replies.

Not on bactrim, but that is very good to know about it increasing thirst.

Yes, anemic. I didn't realize the ice craving was related-that makes sense.

I will try himilayan salt to see if it helps.

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone.
