Any other good combos for bartonella?

Minocycline and rifampin is a good one.
Also zithromax is commonly used with rifampin.
I used doxy, mino and zith with rifampin. Not at the same time, but rotated the other abx while staying on the rifampin.
Have you taken rifampin before, Neff?
The herx from rifampin et al is something else...
At least it was for me. Go slow and ramp up is my advice. Posted by jlcd1 (Member # 18138) on :

Thanks everyone. I read minocycline can cause sun sensitivity too. When I was taking zihtro I broke out in hives. I had been in the sun all day and I guess I over did it. I have been afraid to take zithro ever since. Maybe it would be ok. It was otherwise a good drug for me.
I started Rifampin about a week ago. The NP gave me a hard time about not accepting the $1600 of supplements she sent me (that I didn't know was coming) so I can't use her any more.
I just discovered River Pharmacy has Rifampin. That sure is good but the order won't get here for 2-3 weeks and I don't have a refill. If you stop and start Rifampin, it can make you sick. I won't have enough so I guess I will have to take half a dose the last week. I don't want to get sick - er!
The Rifampin is giving me bad insomnia. I take a sleeping pill to fall asleep and then another one in the middle of the night! This is very worrisome. I also get horrible dreams - vivid and weird.
I just don't know what else to try. I could take cipro but I got tendonitis from Levaquin. Bactrim was not cutting it this time. It is also a sulfur drug, which I cannot clear. I build up a lot of ammonia.
I am so sick of drugs.

Clyndamyacin. My LLMD said it was a good substitute. You can also check with a pharmacist.

Factive is in the same class as levaquin and cipro but I do not think it is as likely to cause tendonitis. But since it is newer it is more expensive.
If you do not have herpes virus issues then you could try adding in l-arginine for the bart.
Rifampin plus factive plus l-arginine was the combo that worked for hubby.

My new LLMD said mino causes some sun-sensitivity, but not major sensitivity like doxy. (same family, but she says a lower mg dosage is effective using mino, and it crosses the blood-brain barrier better.)
