Wish treating Lyme was like treating a strep throat or other infections, as we take the medicine we gradually get well. With Lyme seems we have a worse battle after starting meds with no real promises. That is with chronic lyme in my case.
Just makes me question everything. Been having a few horrible months, never did ever reach great improvement but enough I could function. Trying to wait it out till I can get in with a doctor that will take my ins. and going the natural way..

Prescription meds can be very hard on our bodies. Natural herbs can also make you herx though.
Herxing is just a fact of life with Lyme disease. Hope you find an answer for yourself.

The by products of cell destruction (as in killing the lyme with antibiotics) are themselves inflammatory. That's why killing them off makes us feel terrible. It is also why in SEVERE cases of certain parasitic or other infections, very small anti parasitic medication doses along with immune suppressants are given- because the effects of killing massive numbers of the invading organism can, and has at times, caused the patient to die. That is the long version of why we often feel like crap from the treatment (herx reaction). The other reason may be that the treatment we are trying isn't a good fit for us or possibly we are sensitive, allergic, etc. For me, I had some improvement on various medications but not until I started Mepron did I REALLY improve. I also had some other things happening due to Lyme and these caused much of my exhaustion. The Lyme messed up my parathyroid and thyroid and caused me to have elevated calcium After having the small tumors removed from the thyroid and parathyroid glands, I made even more improvement. For the first time in 4 years I felt "normal" almost every day! Hang in there and you will find a way that works for you.

You know what is interesting....My golden retriever who yes has chronic lyme and never ever seemed to herx. She gets sick from a tick bite, I give her Doxy and 2 days later she is like a puppy again. Yes, in 2 days she is like new again. I never see her go through any herx like reaction - she seems to go straight to feeling good in just 2 days.
I wonder what it is about dogs that they do not seem to herx and will get better so fast.
