Has anyone had issue with generic Mepron, atovaquone ? My llmd seems to think there is a difference and Mepron has to be used.
I don't have an issue with this but wanted to see if anyone else has heard that generic Mepron doesn't work as well as the real stuff?? This is the only antibiotic she has this concern for. Thanks!

I did not know there was a generic for Mepron. Did you just have a co-pay for it?

It apparently was just approved in March of this year and my co-pay was just $10. Per a pharmacist there are minor differences but wanted to see if anybody had any additional information

Hi hokiegirl,
I'm currently taking the generic version after having been on Mepron for over a year. It is working great for me. I noticed no difference. This drug was a life changer for me. Until I started it, nothing really made me feel "well". Good luck to you!

What is the asking price, not just the co-pay, please? The brand of this drug is VERY expensive so this is great news for people with babesia.

According to this there will not be a generic of Mepron until 2016. Some online pharmacies are selling illegal generics according to drugs.com

Oh, then on another place on the site it says it is available. I wonder why Mepron is allowing it when their patent hasn't expired. http://www.drugs.com/generic-approvals-archive/March-2014.html

Generic Mepron is available, depending on your insurance. Was told that Medicare worked something out somehow, perhaps behind the scenes?

Anyhow. Generic Mepron was HORRIFIC for me. Will not be taking it again.

It increased the normally bad ringing in my ears to UNBEARABLE! We're talking the loudest buzzer/cicadas in the head sound you can imagine.

Atovaquone has a long half life too, so even though I stopped the 1 tsp dose after 3 days, I had three more days of suffering to go.

Can't believe I'm not in the funny farm. Lots
would be.

Also, my already poor hearing was much, much worse.

Waiting for real Mepron, which shouldn't have such side effects.
