Was Rx'd Ceftriaxone 1g IM/week.

Pharmacist says not a good idea due to resistance issues.

I cannot use Roc. as a Lyme drug.

Have used it in the past for resp. infections.

The occasional 1g Rocephin makes me feel better.
Mentally and physically.

I assume from Rocephin's properties other than antibacterial:

-Glutamate transporter
-Anti-inflammatory
-Neuro protection

1 gram/week would lead to resistance to what?

-Future effectiveness against Lyme?
-Other Roc. sensitive infections now/in future?
-Other Cephalosporins?
-Other Beta Lactams - like Bicillin?
-Other reasons?

I am desperate. Thanks.

Talk to your doctor. Pharmacists don't know everything.

One pharmacist told me to empty the contents of a doxycycline capsule into applesauce to take it. You should NEVER do this. It can burn your esophagus and throat.

Don't understand your post. Rocephin = ceftriaxone. Same thing.

Some people with ALS/Lyme do this lower dose IV longterm in combination with another oral drug and it works, does not cause resistance. I don't know if such a protocol can cure lyme. The question there would be whether it is necessary to have a herxheimer reaction like you might get with more heavy duty treatment, or whether lower dose longterm might work as well. The ALS/Lyme people cannot do herxheimer reactions and are doing this lower dose to hold it down.

Guess it depends on your goal, and whether it is even possible for everyone to be cured, regardless of what their treatments are.

Yeah - Roc. is the same as Ceftriaxone.

Don't think cure is possible. Just want some relief that Roc/Cef seems to provide.

To avoid resistance - what would be the best oral drug to take with Roc/Cef?

I currently take Doxy 100 mg/day for dry eyes and that should have some antimicrobial effect.

I am trying to do two Bicillin LA injections per week.

Somehow I don't think the Doxy and B-LA would be the drugs to help against Roc/Cef resistance?
Would they?

Or is something like a macrolide needed?
I don't seem to tolerate them very well.

Thanks.

This does not make sense. You can't use it, but it makes you feel better?

And you are going to do IM ceftriaxone/rocephin on top of IM bicillin but you want something else too? That's a lot of shots.

When a combination is used in lyme, two drugs with different actions are generally the choice. So, rocephin might be combined with clindamycin, zithromax, biaxin, for example.

See Dr. B's treatment guidelines in the sticky at the top of the forum.

Other combinations are also used, but I don't understand what you are proposing to combine and why.

I don't think resistance will develop from lower pulsed doses, at least from the experience of some other people. Think I will bow out of this thread as I clearly don't understand it. Maybe someone else can help you.

The idea behind resistance (as I understand it, at least) is that you're taking enough of a medication to introduce it to a bacteria, but not enough to actually kill that bacteria.

So it just gets resistant to that medication, and eventually stops having any effect.

I asked my doctor if I could try Rocephin.
Was Rx'd 1g/week.
Did that three weeks. Felt better.

Different pharmacist cautioned about resistance.

I do not have IV access.

I get 1g vials Ceftriaxone. Mix with Lido.
I divide the dose - one injection per hip.

Just as well 1 g/week. Too painful IM for more.
Anyone tried it SubQ?

The Bicillin shots I barely feel.

I don't tolerate oral Abx.

Really my only hope for Lyme is the Bicillin.
Doxy for my dry eyes and whatever else it might hit.

Roc/Ceftr. - because it makes me feel almost my old self for days.
