I have read that steroids should not be used in Lyme patients, but my question was about topical steroids. I ask because I have a hemorrhoid and the doctor wants me to use a topical cream which apparently is an HC cream, in other words contains steroid. It's called Anusol HC.

A mild, topical steroid cream gave me permanent eye damage and I wasn't even using it by my eyes.
This was before Lyme. I don't know what it would do to me now.
I'm sorry for the hemorrhoid. Witch hazel pads, like Tucks are helpful. You can also boil up some of the witch hazel herb to make a strong tea. Keep in the fridge and apply with a cotton ball.
Those have helped me with hemorrhoids.

Thanks Judie, I'll try that I've been having bouts with hemorrhoids my entire life, ever since I was little and developed an external one. I was never an active kid and I'm still not an active adult, so all the sitting on my butt gave me the external that comes back to bite every now and then, very annoying! I -finally- decided to see what the doctor had to say about the recurring hemorrhoid and he wanted to try the cream, so hence I came here to ask about it. Thanks for the helpful info!

Hey Mystery. Hemorrhoids are the pits, aren't they?
Since it's been an on-going problem, definitely try the witch hazel stuff. It's very soothing.
My experience with steroid creams is that they work for awhile, then get less effective and you have to go up to a stronger dose.
I've experienced bad skin for years and cut way back on the cream after being warned about it, using it rarely.
It was several years later that I used just a little and that was enough to do some very strange stuff to my eyes (look up central serous choroidopathy).
Good luck and I hope the hemorrhoids clear up soon.
Also, I do a bath soak in french green clay. Epsom salt irritates my skin, but the clay is very soothing too. I do 1/4 per bath. The clay also helps with detoxing.
I get it off amazon. You can get a small bag to try for cheap there.

I'll also have to give the clay a try too. I need to get one of those sitz bath things you sit over your toilet because my bathtub has rust in it that we can't seem to get off no matter how hard we try, and I definitely don't want to be soaking in a tub that has rust spots in it, I shudder to think what any of that rust being absorbed through the skin could do to the system. I also need to get to the store and get some baking soda since we don't have a water filter attached to our water heater. It's city water that goes through a treatment center but you never know how pure that water is even after treatment.

Wow, those water and bathtub issues sound like a pain.
Maybe you could filter the water through a Brita or Pur filter first, then heat it on the stove since you're only going to be using a small amount for a sitz bath.
When I was desperate I used a large roasting pan in the tub to do a sitz bath (I didn't continue cooking in the pan btw, it was just easy since I didn't have the energy to go out buying stuff at the time).
