Who does IgM & IgG testing for Babesia Duncani anymore?

I just got a new kit from Igenex and they say "Effective 6/4/14 the Babesia Duncani IgG and IgM Antibody test is not available until further notice".

Labcorp quit testing for it a couple of years ago. Now no Igenex. Any thoughts?

A search of the archives brought this up. Always good to search archives.

I got a babesia duncani test from labcorp. You have to request WA1 IgG antibody(IFA).

I was negative for the igencx Babesia microti test.

You might also want to check with Clongen and Fry Labs. Their tests will not be covered by insurance so will be more expensive. Not sure if the labs currently offer antibody tests or only PCR.

Quest or LabCorp tests should be covered by insurance - but tests may be listed as babesia WA1 instead of babesia duncani.

Another lab that used to offer this test was MDL. Also included in an expensive panel of tests from SpiroStat. Pretty sure these 2 labs also only have PCR tests and not antibody tests.

Yeah, I tested after June 4th, and the kit paperwork said nothing about it not being done. Disappointing, because that's the one my LLMD sees most, even though I'm on the east coast. I might have gone with another lab if I had known.
Then again, Clongen and Fry labs both just list babesia microti.

I wonder if they will refund the difference in tests? It's only about $75 difference between babesia microti and the complete babesia panel. And maybe someday they'll run it.

Unless somebody has a specific code that is still good, the test catalogs I personally looked through for Quest and Labcorp only list antibody tests for Babesia Microti.

While it is possible they only offer these Duncani tests in certain areas of the country, I can't find anything other then Microti in their comprehensive test lists online - even when changing Quest's regional laboratory location.

There is no Babesia WA-1 or Babesia Duncani listed through either Quest or Labcorp.

Thanks for everyone's responses.

one more thing on this, I just learned that is the code for MD-Baltimore. It doesn't work in Phila, for example. Go figure. if you tell the lab you go to use the Balt-MD lab they will.

Igenex has started testing for Babesia duncani again. I called them last week to ask.
