Adding Cipro to Biaxin in a few days. Reading up I see extra Magnesium is recommended. Can someone tell me how much and which kind is best? Twice a day or all at once ok?
Thanks!

Space it out. I would take to "bowel tolerance." When your stools become loose, then back off of the amount of mag.
One of the best is KAL brand's glycinate. I buy it at Vitacost.
For the REAL DEAL, get ReMag from www.rnareset.com Posted by joahsark (Member # 20598) on :
Thanks so much Lymetoo! Think I'm dealing with my first bout of c diff all of a sudden. Now everything comes to a halt until the test comes back. Then what??? Pretty terrified.
Prayerfully it's not that and I will be able to get on cipro and start that recommended magnesium.
Thank you.

Hope you are OK Joah.
When I was on levaquin (same family as cipro), I had 4 times 1000mg daily of magnesium malate. (200mg ELEMENTAL magnesium in each 1000mg capsule).
I spaced each capsule out about 2 hours from my abx.
Lymetoo is correct about bowel tolerance. If you have too much, you will get loose stools. Dial back down to the previous dose if this happens.
Keep in mind magnesium oxide is a no-no. It is a laxative.
Better forms of magnesium are bisglycinate, citrate and malate.
I recently found magnesium chloride spray, 66 mg elemental per spray, and I love spraying it on my Achilles, knees and spine. Great for leg or muscle cramps. Works almost instantly.
Also tried a magnesium sulphate cream, and of course Epsom Salt soaks, so magnesium is absorbed subdermally.

Thank you both so much. Ugh! I've been taking the oxide version. Your information is so valuable and I'm still praying I'll be able to use it and move on.
Eagerly awaiting my C-diff test to come back from PacLab. I've prayed for so many tests to be positive, this is one I pray so hard will be negative!! But I have a bad feeling. I will keep you posted. Posted by joahsark (Member # 20598) on :
C Diff was positive. Knew it would be as this is unlike anything I've experienced on abx before. I am ordering a special formula of 600 billion "C-Diff" formula through Custom probiotics, came highly recommended. I already use their regular 6 strain daily and upping the saccromyces B.
Doc does want me on Vanco though because it stays out of the bloodstream unlike Flagyl which would probably near kill me.
Just praying I can treat again or I'm done for.

Vanco is extremely expensive. Also, it can be difficult to find. My pharmacy called around for me and found one of their branches that had some and I drove there.
Then, they ordered enough to finish off my prescription.
So, if this happens to you, just know that it is typical. My gastro warned me about this.

Alinia is now used for C-diff, too.... and considerably cheaper, although still expensive.
Just google: "Alinia for C-diff?"

TF, you're right, it was hard to find and required a pre-auth from my insurance company. Good thing i called, the pharmacy was going to let it sit around till next week to work on getting it. I called and got it pushed through.
Starting it tonight. Also ordering a custom mix made specially for C-Diff patients from "Custom Probiotics" (the brand I already use)which has 600 billion bacteria per dose. Expensive but worth it if I can treat again.
Thank you for all your support!! I so appreciate you.
Best,
Penny

Glad everything is working out for you so well. You are really fortunate that your doc isn't starting you out on the flagyl.
After a few days on vanco, you should notice a difference.
Keep me posted!

Hope it goes well and you can knock it out right away!

First one down. Without insurance the bill for 40 pills would've been 1200.00 for this med. literally more expensive by weight than gold!!
Looking forward to just being really sick and not having this horrible stomach thing on top of it.
Thank you again my friends!! I'll keep you posted.

Lymetoo -- Have you used any of these RNAreset products? I looked at the website, a few of the minerals look interesting, but am a bit skeptical. They also have at least one other product geared at RNA, which I didn't see described too well, I am both interested and concerned about trying it.
I'd be interested if you could share which ones you've tried and your experiences. I'll spend a bit more time looking at their website information this weekend, but would help to hear from a user, if you are one. Thanks.
