My husband got badly scratched by a stray cat. It looked infected so he went to the dr. and was prescribed clindamycin.
I am not familiar with this antibiotic.
Is this abx effective against bartonella? Is it similar to azithromycin?

I don't know for sure, and I'm not convinced all the LLMD's really know for sure either, but I don't believe it's thought of as a bart treatment. I believe it's more for babesia.

I do agree with Michael.
Mostly I have been reading about clindamycin for babesia.
But my doc has mentioned it before when discussing bartonella-like-organisms.

I don't know if it is prescribed for bart but I will tell you it is definitely flagged as an antibiotic that has a strong possibility of causing c diff. Be sure your husband is using probiotics while on it.
I have 2 friends tha were prescribed it for nail infections and both ended up with c diff. I was prescribed clindamycin for a tooth infection and began having severe dizzy spells so bad I could not drive. The oral surgeon felt it was a side effect and had me stop it immediately.

Ellen is correct about the c.diff. However, I took tons of clindamycin and quinine for babesia and escaped it.

Yes, clindamycin was the one I had added to my abx mix maybe a couple weeks prior to getting c diff, and while that was treated, I have not been able to handle abx since.

Well, we're all different - I took oral clindamycin for Lyme disease for five years, no C diff, just didn't work anymore after then, but does work for other infections.
I got C diff from taking erythromycin once.
I'd be concerned about what antibiotic to take to treat a possible bart exposure from the cat.
