I have a question for other lyme warriors. My family, unfortunately, has had it's fair battle with lyme/confections and I feel fairly well versed, but I am stumped. Ugh! Currently my six year old has lyme (positive iGm on 9 out of 12 bands) and bartonella. She is being treated with Bactrim and Zithromax. After starting the abx she has had a major increase in skin sensitivities. It is really hard to get her dressed - clothes hurt or itch. It infuriates her as well because she has a high standard when it comes to fashion. To my question - has anyone had success with battling this type of symptom or helping alleviate it in anyway?

Welcome to Lyme Net!

Poor dear! Six years old, oh my. The good news is, they are making some softer clothes these days. I know that's a rather lame answer, but there isn't much to draw from on the good news side.

Other news- could this neuro reaction be caused by an overload of toxins affecting the nerves since it increased after she started antibiotics? I'd like to think so, and that it could be addressed in that fashion, but have no science to back that up. Reducing toxins (sensibly) may help?

I do know herxes can greatly intensify the pain. I also know it can go away for unknown reasons, or not.

One thought is to check with a specialist in neurology. There are chiropractic neurologists that may be able to help and do so without RX drugs like a neurologist would.

Here is a website where you can check for one in your area. There aren't many, but the ones some of the patients use have been very successful at helping with lots of the "weird" stuff.

I know this symptom can be less sometimes and worse at times. Some people can't stand to have sheets touch their skin or feel every wrinkle in the blanket as they lay in bed.

And because it is very painful, it is also very annoying- in other words- makes you grumpy/depressed while it is happening and there is nothing that can stop the pain.

I REALLY wish I had a good answer for you, and if you find an answer that would help others, please do share.

Hugs to you and the little one.

TC- Who is sitting here with very soft pj's on trying to avoid getting dressed for this same reason.

Have you considered that she could he having an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics? Talk to the doc about stopping one or both to see if these symptoms stop.

I too, at the peak of it all (Lyme, B and B) have had very sore and 'prickling' skin (all over) that about makes me nuts.

Advil seems to help, and i do think it correlates with the bacterial load. Soft clothes, as previously suggested, really helps as well as warm baths.

On the days when this is really cranked up i don't make it out of sweatpants (even have some that look like legit clothing) Poor thing, hopefully this will pass soon.

I'm 4 months into treatment and although there is still an occasional problem day, that part is much better.

Good luck:)

Be careful with the Bactrim that this is not a reaction- get the child checked. If it's not a reaction, then sounds like better detox needs to happen-- take care.

I'm allergic to both bactrim and zithromax. Those both make me itch and make my skin extra sensitive. Bactrim is a sulfa med. A lot of people are allergic to it.

Lyme also gave me pressure-induced urticaria. I can't wear anything tight. It's getting better with Lyme treatment.

My daughter who is 9 now could never wear long sleeves. It hurt her arms where they bend she would say. Strange but that is one of her symptoms. She also took bactrim and zith and i saw the most improvement on that combo.

I know the first time I ever took minocycline my skin hurt so bad when I herxed I couldn't even touch it with my fingers. I knew it was just a herx because it passed. If it doesn't pass I would call her doctor. Good luck to you. Its so sad for us to have to watch our children go through this. Its definitely the worst part for me.
