I have been having awful diarrhea for the past 2 days. I started on fluconazole on Monday night. Its a low dose just 50 mg twice a day. I have taken 200 mg and never had diarrhea, but as a one time dose not daily.

I don't know if it is connected to the fluconazole or not. Yesterday it was just in the am, but very bad. I felt like I lost 10 pound but felt better later on. Tody it happened in the am again but came on again a few hrs later.

I started taking some activated charcoal but still feel awful. I have some chills so wondering if this could be a bug? If so I have not had a stomach flu in many years.

Unfortunately the traditional fods used to treat diarrhea like toast, bananas and rice I cannot eat as I can't have any starches..

Probiotics? Any time my stool shows signs of becoming loose I step up my probiotics, but I just got diagnosed and know close to nothing. [Smile]

Call the doctor who put you on the med, they like to know when you have severe diarrhea.

Thanks Sacredheart. I did tske the probiotics this morning which may have caused more diarrhea so not sure I want to take more.

Sixgoofykids if it continues I will call my doctor tomorrow but I think she would just say to stop the fluconazole for now.

Ellen, sometimes they worry about a secondary infection like c diff.

I am not on any antibiotics. I would have no reason to have c diff.

I just found out I have microscopic colitis, meaning the tissue visible during lower colonoscopy was remarkable but biopsies showed infection deep within the tissue...that's how it was explained to me.

I got diarreah after adding Ceftin to Azithromycin. Went on 4 months, 7-8 times a day with severe cramping. Two C-diff tests were negative.

LLMD tried me on VSL #3 and VSL #3 DS but neither helped.

I am a week in to treatment with a corticosteroid, Entocort, which is helping a little.

Pepto-Bismol is great for stopping diarreah. I took it 3-4 times a day so I could do errands and make church.

Something new the doctor gave samples of is EnteraGam, a serum-derived bovine protein you mix in pudding that bulks up the bowels. Does help.

Steroids... not a good idea.

Microscopic colitis is often caused by gluten (wheat, rye, barley, spelt, and oats that are not certified gluten-free) in one's diet.

To stop severe diarrhea, charcoal is an excellent choice, as is contacting your doctor.
