after a day in the yard my son a day or two later had a rash on his leg he hid from me.
he is 16. explains it.
so he got a fever and headache and flu symptoms. wouldn't listen to me, still tried to do everything, be social, tried out for golf team in hot sun and ended up in the ER with dehydration.
I mentioned the rash to dr. she looked at it for a second and said nothing. I aske dif it could be related. she said no.
why didn't I press to have testing or a dose of abx????? I was brain dead that night and not myself.
so now I am WORRIED.
what if, what if...... what do I do????? I have enough to worry about! I can't take any more

Number one priority is to take pictures of the rash.
Did you have any bloodwork done at all? I would think a CBC and CMP might be a good idea.
Unfortunately if you are thinking lyme then a test right now would be a waste of money - generally there will be no antibodies present for several weeks.
If the rash is still there then I would go to an urgent care facility and insist on antibiotics. If you have to exaggerate the symptoms.
You can actually order an IGeneX test online without a doctor's order. A little more expensive but might be something to consider down the road.
Let me know if you want that link.

Take pics of the rash.
If he continues to be sick, go back in and get some abx.
Don't beat yourself up about it.
We can only do what we can do...

Ditto on the pictures. Also put a ruler next to the rash and include one with his face .. to prove who had the rash in the pictures.
As stated above, early testing will prove futile, so it's a waste of time.
Do you have any antibiotics on hand?

well, I didn't mention that this was over a month ago. and he wouldn't let me take pics. he didn't even want to go to dr! and he could barely walk.
I let it go but now I am thinking about it.....
it was so classic.
am I paranoid?
lymetoo I do have some doxy here. was mine. would abx be ok now? he was just treated for RMSF several months ago.

Bea if you get igenex test kit how do you get doc to draw blood. I couldnt find ine or a lab to do it witout doc order

kayak - It looks like the company that offers the testing online uses Quest Lab for the blood draw. You do not have to order your own test kit.
I have never ordered tests from this particular company. Have ordered online tests from Life Extension which uses LabCorp draw sites but operates similarly to this company.
When I get my babesia website set up I will sign on as an affiliate with the company and hopefully more people will become aware of this option for testing.
When you click on the test you want it will have a box to click on with the draw locations for each test available. Bea Seibert

I agree - don't beat yourself up! Boys can be stubbornly independent and you couldn't have thought of everything. Was it the classic bulls eye rash? If so, then even if it was over a month ago, this is still the early stage. I'm still new to Lyme, but I believe that his outlook is excellent at this point. Pictures are nice, but not necessary. Just describe it to the doctor along with the other symptoms. You can also request a Lyme literate doctor in your area through this website or through ILADS.org.
I'm sure that if you were to go to an urgent care place or your family doctor they would give you at least one course of Doxycycline to get him started. Do make sure he takes a good Probiotic before, during and after the antibiotic treatment and space them out 2 hours...don't take them at the same time or it could render either one less effective.
Best of luck, and don't worry.

p.s. Re Igenex Labs...I ordered a kit, but it definitely did require a doctor's signature. If you find a Lyme literate doc (LLMD) they will likely order the proper testing.

laura, the rash was a spotty rash in an area of about 5" or so, from what I could see anyway. Like I said, he really didn't want me to see it. he says I am a worry wort.
and no, the urgent care places don't care around here. and most drs in this area are all tied into the hospital and follow the classic Eliza, WB protocol. this is how I got no where with my diseases.
I could call a dr I know of. probably be a big wait. we do have a lyme dr but my son doesn't like him any more. son is really in an anti-lyme mode. so tired of hearing me talk about it I guess.
