I finally had gallbladder out 4 days ago after years of gut issues/ attacks- ultrasounds always showed no stones, so
Dr.s would dismiss GB. Finally demanded a HIDA scan few weeks ago, failed it (validation at last) had removed laparoscopic.
Recovery's been tougher than I anticipated- not w/ eating/food- staying low fat in case, functional bowels, but still need pain meds,
and the bloating/ distention is concerning me- any tips on this? How does one know if there is an infection going on if on meds w/ Tylenol every 6 hours/ therefore no fever?
I think that's my fear- infection/ lyme was in the GB- now stirred, causing bloat, tenderness? Or am I paranoid? Been off antibx over a year...
Any thoughts welcome, thanks! And so glad my GB is out!

Homeopathic Gasalia by Boiron - for gas, bloating.
Look at digestive enzymes also. Make sure lipase
is in there to help with fat digestion. With gas
and bloating going down, hopefully there will
less need for pain med which is good as the pain
med can slow down the bowel. Best of luck! Do you
have any ginger? That could help too.

Pain meds given during & immediately after surgery (narcotics) can mess up the gut for a while...
Probiotics, digestive enzymes, good fiber (veggies, legumes, nuts/seeds, and fruit & gluten-free grains in moderation), and filtered water will likely help.

- Bloating / distension is from the gas used to blow up your belly during the surgery - to separate out the insides so they can better see and work.
It often does not "hit" until about day 3 afterward. It should dissipate within a few days but can be very painful.
I'm not sure what to do about that as it's not inside the stomach itself but the abdominal cavity. I don't have time to look as to if gentle massage or heat might be of help. Moving around, not letting the gas collect and get blocked is good, just take it easy. Walking, strolling even just in your home type of thing. -

Thank you-- I appreciate it. The pain and severity caught me by surprise- I've had 3 C-sections, guess I thought I'd breeze through this. My memory is probably selective on those tho.
Repeated lesson on slowing down and taking care of my self. I do worry about infection, all I know until next week is the nurse saying seriously 'you really needed to get that gallbladder out'

There is one ingredient in Gasalia that is very interesting. Raphanus Sativus, which is the remedy of choice for post surgical, painful, trapped gas.

Surprise! How did I miss you were getting your gb out?!
I hope you are OK! The Gas they put into the abdomen Always causes me pain.
Heal quick. Try not to worry about re:lyme.
Just send peace and calmness to your body through deep slow breaths (if it doesn't hurt too much)

Sorry to hear you needed the surgery....but hope you're healing and recovering nicely!
May I ask what was the deciding factor that you needed it out?
Was it diseased? Was it the attacks?
Just curious - only if you don't mind sharing - as I might need the same procedure.

I had my first GB attack 11 years ago- boom! On the floor in pain, can't move- it passes after awhile- getting bowels to move, anything, sometimes helps attack ease.
I didn't know what it was, long time passed, over the years attacks became more frequent, long story short, 2 ultrasounds showed 'no issues' no gall stones they could see.
Endoscopy/ Colonoscopy = fine. Told- IBS. I've done every special diet, hard tx of lyme, Bart, yeast, parasites.
This last year, no more real 'attacks' just misery, really, with the gut. Mostly at night.
Finally! 4 weeks ago I went to GP and said give me a HIDA scan. I need to know for sure, despite ultrasounds showing okay, this is not my GB.
Failed HIDA scan, and it hurt a lot while getting it done (indicative). Saw GB surgeon, gave him this story (and GB issues run in my family) surgeon says: Textbook GB, get it out ASAP.
I am doing better now (10 days out) and really feel something toxic had been removed from my body. HTH.

Good question. There is a gallbladder/blood barrier. Antibiotics penetrate poorly into and infected gallbladder. The GB can act as a resevoir of chronic infection, adding to the difficulty of treating Lyme. Some patients immediately feel less toxic when the GB is removed since a major source of germs is gone.
If the CCK injection given with the HIDA scan reproduced her symptoms it is clear evidence that she has a bad gallbladder. The infection resides in the wall of the gallbadder, not in the bile.

I have to get mine out Thursday. I am very worried.
I have had a lyme doc tell me lyme resides in my gallbladder according to some testing he has done. Also an MRI detected sludge. Ive never been so sick in my life.

Getting a HIDA scan on Thursday after 2 months of on-off nausea, gas, right abdominal aches.
Ultrasound showed nothing and testing ruled out parasites and CDiff.
My question is relative to dizziness I have had off-on since my Lyme battle 4 years ago.
Has anyone had gallbladder induced dizziness that went away after removal?
