I'm supposed to work my way up to 400 mg of doxy per day, but I did not get any guidance on how to do this.

I have not found any answers here or on the net.

A few days ago, I added a doxy with lunch. (previously, I took a 100 mg pill at breakfast and dinner for a total of 200 mg).

Then, I think I will take 2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner (100 mg each) to get to 400 mg a day.

Is this the correct way to ramp?

Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate it.

Does anyone have any idea if this is right or wrong?

I'm new to this. I just started taking doxy in October. I'm trying to get to 400 mg.

Is taking one at breakfast, lunch and dinner and then switching to 2 at breakfast and 2 at dinner the correct way?

Thanks!

I am not sure how to ramp doxy.

I think your idea is sound, although 3 times a day might be harder to fit in probiotics and other meds etc.

Maybe 100mg with breakfast, and 200 mg with dinner? That way, if you herx, it will be in the evening instead of the day when you need to get stuff done.

But yes, 200mg at breakfast and dinner is how my doc prescribed it.

Be sure to take in the middle of a big meal, and to remain upright for 2 hours afterwards to prevent acid reflux.

The important thing is to take doxy every twelve hours. Try not to miss a dose, unless the herx is terrible. Something to do with half life and peak concentration.

Thank you GretaM!

That's very helpful. I knew that missing doses was bad, but I did not know why.

I appreciate your response.

Just make sure you eat it with a lot of food/water and in the middle of a meal.

I had a carb with it (like rice) and never got nauseous or ill when I did this. My support group leader suggested to always take it with a carb and it never made me ill after I followed that rule.

I didn't ramp up. Since doxy covers other infections (not just Lyme), I didn't want them to develop resistance.

Thanks Judie!

For the most part, I have been doing pretty well on 300 mg. I will probably start taking 400 mg.

I read a little on developing resistance, but not much. That concerns me.

How can you tell if the bug is developing resistance?

I have a number of Bartonella like skin symptoms, including scratch like marks. I know that doxy does not treat Bart, but it seemed to help when I started.

In the last few weeks, I have seen my skin acting up a little. I'm not sure if that has to do with resistance.

It could possibly be a flare. I have also noticed more agitation, which could be Bart or Bart-like.

My LLMD thinks I may have Bart.

Thanks!
