Given that things pass through so fast, how do you get your calories?
Carbs are obviously the easiest way to get calories, but:
a) Lyme diet b) does it risk making the d worse?
Protein I can only eat so much of, so what about fats? Do they stand a chance of getting absorbed?

Do you have it constantly??
Look into more s.boulardii and/or other probiotics. I would eat whatever you can. Broth would be best .. but if this goes on and on then you need to find the cause.

Had a bowel change last week, but didn't turn watery until yesterday. Stopped abx.
I have a little bit of S boullardi here and taking it
really craving some bread...

OH yeah... I was chicken to open your thread!
Been checked for c.diff yet?
Bread may not be bad unless you are already sensitive to gluten or have candida.
Posted by VV (Member # 38828) on :
Couldn't get through to my doc yet and the office just said to stop the abx.

The s.boulardii stops me up like plug!

I did some activated charcoal, but it seems a little uncomfortable, like it was blocking the stuff that wanted to leave?
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
I don't know? It can clear meds and everything else .. so don't take it within 2 hours of other supps, etc.

As Lymetoo said, first and foremost, you have to look at the cause of your gut issues, and address that completely...
For immediate help with the diarrhea, you can temporarily curb it with the B.R.A.T. diet:
B = bananas (organic) R = rice (cooked, non GMO) A = applesauce (non-sweetened, organic) T = Tea

I personally feel that sourdough bread is perfectly ok to have. It's actually made with lactic acid bacteria (which are probiotic bacteria) in addition to a little baker's yeast. The lactic acid is what gives it the sour taste.
Baker's yeast is not the same kind of yeast as candida. It's relatively non-pathogenic and a small amount may actually give candida some competition.
Has to be from a bakery that doesn't use additives. Can be frozen.

I take four S.Boulardii in at lunch and bedtime with another 75 Billion Probiotic to prevent. So far it's worked. I would amp up probiotics a lot!
The BRAT diet is a good idea. Stay hydrrated. Maybe lots of bone broth...
Also I had chronic diarrhea at one point prior to treatment that went on for 1 month and I got an acupuncture treatment specifically for that and it resolved immediately. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not...

for me the only thing that cured gut problems was chlorella. I was taking it for lyme treatment, as toxin binders.
I had given up treating chronic diarrhea and pains for decades. After a few months of chlorella, a 2 decade 24/24 7/7days a week gut/ stomach disease disappeared.
Some people though have extreme diarrhea with chlorella, so you got to be careful. Don't start on it now.

As for food, i would take gluten free, milk free, allergen free, probably overcooked rice as said above, with a bit of good salt (himalayan, for electrolytes).
look into candida too... But lyme alone does cause gut problems, at least for me.

Thanks,
I've been eating a bit of brown rice and trying other things with it. Also, had some applesauce, but noticing that carbs are making my mouth taste bad.
I also added a couple extra probiotics in the mix.
Starting to wonder if powdered probiotics do not work (I use Custom Probiotics) as logically, wouldn't all of the bacteria get nuked in the stomach? Stomach acid is hostile for most bacteria.
Also, the liquid has stopped but I still get high volume, semi-formed stool with a sense of urgency. From reading, this gives me the impression of a problem in the small intestine.

I also recommend following the BRAT diet (=bananas, apples, rice, toast).
A friend of ours recently had diarrhea and could not hold any food down. He used Olive Leaf Extract and got better.
You might want to look into using OLE as well. The best one is Seagate brand (it has the most concentration of active ingredient, oleuropein, in it. See their website at www.seagateproducts.com
You can also buy OLE on Amazon (I have done this also) or at a local health food store which carries it.
Btw - I am in no way affiliated with this product or company, just trying to help. Our family has used this and it works for killing viruses and bacteria in the past.
Read Dr. Morton Walker's book, "Olive Leaf Extract" which you might find in your local library or buy it used on Amazon for very little.
Here is a link for a very informative thread on Lymenet about OLE:
"Debility from exhausting discharges, from loss of vital fluids(diarrhea, sweat, vomit, bleeding), together with a Nervous erethism (nervous system sensitivity), calls for this remedy."
...in low potency, for example 6c or 6x with each stool up to 6 times daily if needed. Space out doses with improvement. If zero change in frequency, urgency, or whatever, after 3 doses it's not the remedy for the case. Remedy action can be stopped with a few drops of peppermint oil on the tongue if wanted.
"Is especially adapted to persons of bilious temperament. It affects chiefly the Duodenum, small intestines, liver, and Rectum...colicky pain... Stool is watery with jelly-like mucus, painless, Profuse. Gushing and offensive....Torpidity of the liver; portal engorgement with a tendency to hemorrhoids, hypo-gastric pain...

Going low-carb, sugar-free and starch-free stopped my diarrhea in its tracks. It's not good for me in the long run(I only weigh 93 lbs at this point - at 1.58 m, which is approx. 5 feet 2), but it has reduced my diarrhea and foul-smelling gas.
I went on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), which immediately resolved 80% of my gut problems. I ate ground meat and carrots for breakfast ...
I still can't eat high-carb/high-starch foods like rice, potatoes ... things that people typically tell you to eat when you have diarrhea.

. Brown rice has too much roughage. Eat white rice, which is easy to digest.
When a person has numerous loose and liquid stools, he should stop eating roughage, which encourages bowel peristalsis (muscular movement of the small and large bowels).
Bananas provide potassium and other vitamins and minerals. Rice provides carbohydrates needed for cell function. Applesauce provides pectin and carbohydrates.
When bowel contents move through too quickly, the intestinal walls cannot absorb nutrients very well. You also lose liquids that should be absorbed, so it's important to rehydrate and get the bowels to slow down.
Look into drinking Kefir to replenish good bacteria in the gut.

Prescript Assist probiotics.
Bentonite clay.
But not at the same time.

BRAT diet but the t stands for toast, not tea.
Next thing is protein. Protein helps to rebuild the lining of the gut. And probiotics.
Then slowly progress to other foods.
The last thing to add back is dairy.
Also, (as long as ok with your doc), stop abx for a few days.

Actually...it is also known as the BRATTY diet:
B = Bananas R = Rice A = Applesauce T = Tea T = Toast Y = Yogurt
I had left off toast in the earlier post because of the gluten, and yogurt because it is usually added later...
