so I am rx flagyl for a non lyme related issue for 7 days.
I have been reading about some things flagyl can do to you and I already have some of those things , like Raynaud's, and other things on the reaction list.
does this mean if I have those sx from lyme already that taking flagyl can worsen them ? or make them even harder to get rid of?
am I just super paranoid?
the list of reactions is so long, it scaring me

I think it depends on what infections you have, and how your infections are interplaying with one another.
Flagyl is a potent antiparasitical, and anti-cystic lyme drug. If foundational pathogens are protecting your bacteria and viruses (and you have a high load of these), I personally think it could make you clinically worse. This is one of the reasons why I think some people have major "reactions" to flagyl.
Just my opinion, but I would be extremely careful taking it. This is the drug that started my chronic debilitation.

My 16 yr old just did a week of flagyl. Her stomach feels all better, no issues.
It hits giardia, which you can get from tapwater, think restaurants.

You also must be taking high doses of magnesium while on something like flagyl. It depletes it very quickly.

It may be 500mg a day or it could be 1000mg a day .. depends upon your body. Take all it will handle.

Here is the dosage of mag that a lyme doctor recommends for patients who are on Levaquin:
the more I hear about ABX the more I don't want them!

I am seeing an alternative dr next week.. cannot wait. hope I am not disappointed.

some days I take tons and nothing happens, and other days I take little and I get stomach cramps.
is that normal?? should I be able to handle it consistantly?

make sure they monitor your liver. Made mine tank. Didn't help I was on fluconazole at the same time.
I did herx on it...had odd symptoms that popped up and then settled down.

I decided NOT to take the flagyl.
somethign is jsut telling me not to take it.
I saw new dr this week and she said my imbalance is from too much acid. can be leveled out by probiotics. I think that is what she said. haha. so we shall see.

Lisa, just to prove we are all different... I always feel great on flagyl. Ton of energy and pain free. It is one of the reasons my dr. began to suspect lyme... I would go on it for unrelated issues and would feel great mood and pain much much better. I would feel a little drained by the end of the 7-10 days... but then I would bounce back, and then I would go down hill again.
When I was prescribed it for Lyme, at first I had the same good reaction... but as time went on-- it was tough. I took it with cipro for 14 days on 14 days off for about a 8 months. on the first two to 3 days I would feel great. On the 4th day I would get extremely depressed (tears, exhaustion) Once I figured out the pattern I could deal with the depression more... and then the pain came, but I believe that was from the cipro.
but I think if your dr thinks you should take it for something un lyme related you should consider it. you don't want to let some other bug or infection get out of control. we know what happens when that happens... stealth little buggers. And regular short course should not be a problem... Just another point of view.
