What is your experience with cowmen. I've been on it since January 1st. I really think it is helping, going to keep going.

Haley, keep me in the loop on Cowden. If I don't see some improvement by the year mark on my antibiotics I may take a break and try Cowden.

What is Cowden?

Dr. Cowden takes an herbal approach. He seems to have done a good job in tweaking the protocol and not giving up on patients that don't get better.

Supposedly he has had high success rates. That is why I want to know how Haley does. I don't want to be on antibiotics for over a year if I can help it, but I don't want to throw them out yet either when I'm just hitting the six month mark.

I'm doing cowden and so far am tolerating everything. I'd say it's going to be very slow but steady.

heck abx bout killed me more than once so never again.

Sacredheart, if you can afford it, you could start Cowden alongside the antibiotics. Although Dr C did say early on that they should not be taken with them, in practice nowadays, many do take them together.

I really want to. The problem is always money. I'm going to try to get into real-estate. Then I'm going to get the Cowden protocol, and one of those chambers. I'll probably get a Rife too. I'm going to throw so much at this thing it will have to die.

Antibiotics destroyed my gut. The Cowden protocol is gentle and hey, antibiotics are not a quick fix anyways. I'd go for the gentle antimicrobials and a slow and steady recovery over a quick antibiotic fix followed by a crash.

I agree with Yessi. Slow and steady wins the race.

As for money issues, I would try basically Buhner's herbs and add Cowden for detox. I don't think you need the posh Samento as the only alternative. For me, cats claw in powder has always worked even better than Samento (I still have a couple of Samento bottles ,unused....).

As for parsley, and other tinctures, just google how to make your own tinctures.

Bear garlic tincture, i do by myself every spring and take it the whole year. Wonderful to detox the kidneys. Total cost is my vodka bottle, that I use for the tincture.

I do not believe that any protocol does the job alone. I do think many Chinese herbs are still wonderful for the fraction of the price. You need to cook some, others make them in powder (or buy them in powder), but I do think they also work wonderful.

The problem is what to combine for which problem.

Some good online Chinese pharmacies are really good, fast, with good products. I was using 1stchinese, long ago. Recomended by Buhner.

Sometimes tincture is a good idea, but others, teas, decoctions are much better, in my feeling.

I had a long thread about Babesia and Bartonela, with alternative herbs. Since then (many years ago), I never had to fight the beasts again. They went dormant with herbs, a whole combination of them, that I tuned with muscle tests. I also had used some of Cowden, but they were never my favorite ones.

I think Noni tincture helped me, I used Parsley tincture, a bit of SAmento, loads of bear garlic tincture. I had Cumanda (rarely used) and other tinctures I can't remember (that I barely used).

If money is short, I would go Buhner and Chinese herbs, and add Cowden only when you find no other alternative on the two previous choices. For a fraction of Cowden costs, you can treat many months or years. Meanwhile, if your budget is small, Cowden's tinctures may use your resources fast.

Brussels, could you tell me what does you took of each of those herbs to kill off the bart???? I feel like if I can kill the part the rest of this is going to resolve.

Sacred heart: I pulled an old thread of mine called Alternative Bartonella protocol up (under hardynaka, my old screen name).

You can take a look at the herbs I used there!

I've been on this about a month and am having good results so far. I have done Buhner herbs in the past, in fact I have a ton of them here plus all his books, but I thought it was confusing to put a protocol together, even though Buhner spells it out in his book. I think Buhner herbs are great if you can be consistent and come up with a protocol.

This is what I love about the Cowden Protocol - there is a schedule with check boxes for every dose!!! check it out ------http://www.nutramedix.ec/ns/images/stories/CSP03272014Schedule_1.pdf, if you are brain dead like me, this is a god send, trust me.

I usually only respond to antibiotics, for the first time in years I believe this may suffice and I will not have to go back on antibiotics. Fingers crossed!!!

Keep in mind that I am doing many other things, mild HBOT, extremely clean diet which includes 64 ounces of green juice a day, 3 to 4 liters of water, 1 hour of PEMF mat and sauna intermittently.

I can tell that it is woking because when I have my 36 hours off (he suggests 36 hours off every 2 weeks) of the protocol I feel good and don't feel that I need antibiotics.

Haley!! Crossing fingers for you!!!!!!

I know he has a fixed protocol, and I do hope you are one of the fortunate that exactly fits the picture!

Even if not, if you feel better, later you get your brain back and can tune the herbs (including Buhner) on your own! I do hope so, that you don't have to go back to abx and you solve your lyme problem with plants

Youhou!!!

Anyone else?

Would love to hear experiences with Cowden. I really believe it is effective, I've been on it since 1/1/15.

Also, does anyone get loose stools from Banderol?

I am hoping more people will weigh in too. I am seriously considering doing this protocol.

I did the full Cowden protocol for 6 months. I felt better at first, probably partly due to the detox nature of the protocol and partly due to getting off abx. I then declined badly.

Same as Brussels mentioned, I think the Buhner herbs are stronger with Cowden for support. Every body will be different, so you'll need to find your personal combination that works.

I followed it for about 18 months, but it hasn't helped me really. I sometimes thought that cats claw and banderol helped with neck pain and body stiffness , but can't be sure.

I did react to some of the herbs, but they din't lead to improvement. I have been ill for many years and was diagnosed very late. Antibiotics at the late stage didn't appear to help either.

On the other hand, many people who were in the Facebook Lyme Herbals group DID find that it was helpful, so ask some questions there to get more responses.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will add in some Buhner herbs, since I have those here also.

I have seen some comments on Facebook, just taking a break from Facebook for a while.

I think part of my progress is due to the serrapetase twice a day which enables my body to absorb mHBOT and 64 ounces juice everyday. Everything seems to be getting into my system better.

Feeling hopeful.

That's great, Haley. We are all different, with different infections and issues, so what helps one will not help another, as you know.

I took serrapeptase for years, but that doesn't appear to have helped in my case either.

The diversity between people with these illnesses is one of the most cruel and frustrating things about them!

Yoy could try a four to six month of Cowden and then add in the Buhner herbs, by the way.
