Went to the doctor yesterday for lab results that were taken back in June she said my T3 was low and wants me to try Cytomel. Wondering if any of you know anything about the T3 or the med.?

Synthroid is T4, so if T3 is low, it's not uncommon to supplement Cytomel, which is T3.

I agree with sixgoofykids! Though with thyroid they usually want more recent labs? My docs do, anyway...
Also, if you have Lyme disease, your thyroid may be a bit wonky until you've gotten the pathogen load down some. It wreaks havoc on the endocrine system!

- If you take Cytomel, be absolutely certain it is timed released.
The previous kind that just wore off after so many hours nearly killed me when it wore off mid-afternoon every day. Seriously. Drop like a ton of bricks from a sky scraper kind of just stopped.
It must be timed released to NOT do that. -

Your doctor needs to run more tests. This site will explain why and which ones.
I was on synthetic, levothyroxine for many years. I am now on Armour thyroid. My doctors only ran the traditional thyroid tests. It was not until I switched to the practice I am with now that the correct tests were done and I discovered I had hashimotos.

Yes, I agree with Keebler, I like Naturethroid or Armour better. When I was sick, however, they weren't working well enough so my doctor switched me to Synthroid and Cytomel. Later I switched back.
Once I got better from Lyme, I weaned off all thyroid meds.
