Did one last night for first time and today have a bad sinus headache and jaw pain.

What could be causing this?

I tried it once, warm distilled water and small amount of sea salt, and got a terrible reaction in my nasal and frontal sinuses, and headache.

Took about a week to resolve so i never tried it again.

sorry you had a similar reaction.

Did you ever figure out why?

My doctor is convinced that I'm breaking up mucous that holds a lot of bacteria (Bartonella, Candida, mold, etc etc).

thought maybe it had something to due with mold/bacteria. But i also had a gi flare when i just tried a basic enema so not sure if i am just so inflamed everywhere that anything will set off a reaction.

That's strange. What are you putting in the solution?

I just put the normal solution that comes with the neil med bottle.

I think when the fluid breaks up in the sinuses and everything starts adjusting and moving, things feel different and could even cause pain. My TMJ has always been a problem, and it will crack and move if I've been clogged up.

Salt is antimicrobial, too. Could be some local die-off.

Anytime I move congestion, I get a herx. So, lymphatic drainage, neti pot...these things expose more microbes and release toxins.

I would keep doing it!!

Make sure you use distilled water or water that has been boiled and cooled for this. Sometimes when you are just starting out, it is better to reduce the mixture to half of the saline solution.

I remember when I started using a neti pot how it seemed to irritate my sinuses. Now I love it and it is the best thing to soothe them and help unblock my eustachian tubes as well.

Make sure when you are done with the neti pot, to only blow your nose GENTLY and try to do just one nostril at a time. Good luck to you!

Does the solution have preservatives in it?? I always make my own.

I use kosher salt and distilled water... and touch of baking soda.
