Has anyone had success treating only for babesiosis?
After seven years of abx and babesia treatment, I wonder if my only remaining infection could be babesia? The only time I feel better is when I take Coartem.
I feel worse when I take antibiotics, and am afraid of long term damage. My remaining symptoms seem to be chiefly those of babesia: sweats, chills, headaches, mood changes, sore throats, brainfog, sore neck, fatigue.
Has anyone treated *just* for Babesia either for the whole treatment period, or as the final treatment?
Suggestions? Experiences? thanks in advance!

My final treatment was for babesiosis. I didn't really have any symptoms of babs, but I had a positive FISH from Igenex, so there was no doubt I had it.
So, I was essentially symptom free after treating lyme and bartonella.
Once I started treating the babs, all hell broke loose. Every 7 days I had a horrible flare that lasted 48 hours. It was 48 hours of hell.
My lyme doc said that babs has a 7 day cycle and a 14 day cycle and that I was experiencing the 7 day cycle. He then added artemesinin to my treatment, to be taken right before the flare started and throughout the flare. So I took it from Friday morning through Sunday night.
The art reduced my flare symptoms to nearly nothing. I continued the treatment for months. I looked for signs of flares. The babs eventually switched to the 14 day cycle and flared every 14 days. Then, finally, there were no signs of flares at all, not even a need to nap during the flare period.
Once this happened, I was symptom free. That was 10 years ago now. And, I am still cured of lyme, babs, and bart.

It's something that the majority of Lyme patients have .. so it's best to treat and see what happens!

TF, your story is very interesting to me because babesia is the only bacteria I have tested positive for in the last four years. Just to clarify -- did you take antibiotics or only anti-malarials while you treated babs at the end?
Catgirl, are you saying you treated with antiprotozoals in addition to the ones used for malaria?

For the last 11 months of my treatment I treated only babs.
I took Bactrim DS twice per day. After a month, the doctor added artimesinin twice per day Friday through Sunday to encompass my weekly flares.
So, that was my treatment.
We also added raw garlic or Kyolic a few months into treatment. And, when my white blood cell count went low, the doc had me take Transfer Factor which brought my level right back up.
I became symptom free after about 7 months of this treatment. But, winter was coming on so my doc required me to stay on the treatment until spring. (He says winter is a stress on the body and could cause a relapse.)

TF, that is very helpful to know. I think I will talk to my LLMD about hitting only Babs for several months.

Can you take Coartem alone, or does it have to be used in tandem with antibiotics?

Definitely need to test for protomyxzoa rheumatica - can mimic babesia and they are not mutually exclusive infections. It is possible to have both and the treatment is different.
