I used to wear ear plugs of the type with baffles that stick into the ear. A couple of years after lyme, apparently I was clogging that ear and pushing the wax in. It started accumulating and my ear was popping and my balance suffered. I never really knew whether the ear issue was from the plugs or maybe babesia.
The ear problem is much better, as am I, but it still bothers me. Both the ear specialists I saw could not detect any problem with the ear. Sometimes there is swelling around the ear area and a bit of irritation in the ear accompanied with some wax discharge, but not much. The same thing does not happen with the other ear.
Anyone know what this is? I can't really find anything online.

- Many ear specialists do not have the full breadth of education in all matters of the ears, especially where lyme is involved.
You might stroll through here and see if anything rings any bells for you, so to speak.
If you have a LLMD (or past LLMD) be sure to run this issue by him / her.
Cranial Sacral therapy may help. See if there are any PTs or DOs trained in the UPLEDGER INSTITUTE techniques near you.
Your posture, the way you sleep, etc. is suspect with this being on one side but it could be any number of things.
A gluten-free & dairy-free diet can be great help to lessen inflammation. As can being in an allergy "friendly" chemical "free" zone (as much as that is possible).
Turmeric may also be good to help lessen possible inflammation. So many other variables here, too:

I always remember my Mom having ear pain and a piece of Kleenex jammed into her right ear especially in colder or windy weather.
I got the same thing around 30 yrs old before I got lyme. Just The right ear. Went to many drs that said I had a virus so no antibiotics .
But when ever I needed antibiotics for something else, the ear ache went away, so go figure.
But ya it hurts. and always in right ear never in left ear. I still get it today.
My Mom would beg drs for antibiotics.... always same answer NO NO NO, Its a virus, Made her life miserable.
Could be Bacterial ?

speaking of these one sided problems.... this is weird.
Had an operation to take out top part of lung about 6 months ago for Lung cancer and it is in operable.
So ever since then I have B.O. on my left armpit ... yuk.
Not both armpits just the left (same side as operation).
So Ill hop right out of shower and left armpit still stinks! Right armpit is nice and rosey, no problems.
2-3 days later I still don't smell except for left armpit....
This is ridiculus.
The only thing I can think of is I Might have an infection close to where they cut me open on left side. ...... Who Bleeping knows
such is my wacky life since lime.
Anyone heard of such a thing ???

I doubt that there is an issue with postural stuff because my neck and posture are pretty good except when the head stuff is bothering me. I did go to an osteopath with cranial credentials a few years ago.
Should have said that much of my head on that side heats up while this is going on and my lymph glands swell, as does much of that side of the head. Might not be an ear issue, or might no longer be an ear issue, but I've never heard anyone on this forum with similar problems.
I've been off drugs for some time because I can no longer tolerate them. Right now I'm using essential oils and they do effect the reaction. There is some tinnitus but not nearly as bad as previously

I have lost all hearing in my left ear and there is a lot of damage to my vestibular nerves on the same side. I cannot balance without use of my vision. We are pretty sure it is damage caused by Lyme.
I often feel heat, burning, sizzling sensations in my left sinus and left side of my head near the ear and above.
I am beginning to have some fullness in my right ear and this scares me so much. A thermography I had done recently shows inflammation along the auditory nerves on both sides, but left sinus and left auditory canal are much worse than right.
If only I knew what to do next!

My right ear is wors than my left. I lost hearing temporarily for a few days, back when all this crap started. Both ears are consistently clogged. It sucks, I hate it, I wish I could get rid of it.

- SCENTS in products can do this. and
CORN? Corn is in so many foods. Even a trace can do all kinds of clogging action to ears, even just one ear.
In addition to avoiding gluten, you might want to assess any corn intake. Just be aware that it hides in just about any processed food unless otherwise stated.
FAQ - What's so bad about corn? -- Really interesting detail here. -

- I hope everyone will also see the most recent posts in the Tinnitus thread regarding ototoxic Rx, etc.
Ototoxic Rx can affect just one side as well.
Yet, gluten, corn & dairy are also key factors to inflammation in the ears. -

I do I do!!!!!!!!!!!
just last night I woke with such pain. no dr has been able to help. I am igong to try essetial oils soon. cannot wait to see if they work!
I started with my issues when I had a mystery 'flu' about 10 years ago. never got better after that.

keebler, I guess my ear pain last night could have been then from the cheese I ate for dinner! I just had to. although I usually avoid it.
another thing I rememebr you saying about EMFs and ringing in ears. I couldn't tell what was making mine worse at the time, but now that a lot of my tinnitus went away I can tell the the lingering sx of it now is cause by electronics for sure. the computer, the cieling fan... the car is the worst culprit. in the car it gets really looud. even electrica outlets with lots of plugs in them bother me.

I listened to an essential oils program in which there was an eye, ear, throat guy talking. Here are my notes on it:
"He said that for ear and sinus infections, which are often staff infections, use malaleuca, (tea tree) oil. Also for chronic throat infections. They’ve had great results. Effective at low doses (5%) but if you apply to outside, will be a lesser amount anyway. Also lavender and basil. Put at entrance to ear or behind the ear. If you have an intact eardrum, is probably okay to drop it into the ear."
Of course I had to try this. First I put the undiluted tea tree oil onto the area surrounding my ear. After awhile, I put one drop directly into my ear with no bad results. I kept doing this for a couple of days and now my ear is no longer irritating me. I still have tinnitus however.
It could very well be that I had a staff infection as well as ringing caused by babesia.

ok, lymenotlite. sounds good to try.. funny, I have used tea tree in my kids ears for years since they were babies, but haven't thought of it since because they are all grown now! well, almost.
