I just happen to be on IgeneX website and read this....I was positive for bands 31 and 41.
Note: If a patient’s Western Blot is positive by either IgM or IgG and has only bands 31kDa and 41kDa, there is a chance that it is a false positive due to presence of antibodies to viruses or other spirochetes. Therefore, confirmation of band 31kDa is recommended – Test 488- 31kDa Epitope** for IgM and Test 489 – 31kDa Epitope** for IgG. Addition of this test improves specificity to greater than 97%.
Any thoughts? thanks

This isn't anything new. Igenex recommends this additional testing when you have ONLY bands 31 and 41.
Is that your case?

- Lee,
You had more than that just 31 & 41, though. Looking back at your Igenex results you also had significant bands that were IND. That also means a lot.
Also consider other tick borne or other chronic stealth infections -- including the complications of the food poisoning from the sushi.
Because of the IND results you got, too, To my eye, lyme is certainly top of your list, no matter what else could be going on.
From your previous posts :
Igenex Western Blot (I thought you mentioned this to be an IgM but not sure)
Positive Bands were 31 and 41. IND Bands were 34 and 39.
Then, later you posted:
IgG
31 IND 34 IND 39 IND
NO 2 starred bands on the IgG
(end your excerpt)
Still, even though "IND" those bands would not have registered were there nothing there to see. If you are sure your doctor is ILADS educated (and beyond) and thoroughly lyme literate, their clinical assessment of your history / symptoms, etc. also add a great deal.

All this can be so complex that it's hard to take it all in at once. -

Very true Keeble...its so very complex its sooo frustrating...I've only been able to see my doctor once since the dx and I didn't ask the questions I should have. Just trying to figure some things out before I go back to see him
the sushi thing i might not ever figure out what "bug" caused the sickness...that's frustrating too!!
thanks for your help you too TF

Did you test positive to any co-infections?

It can be positive for not only viruses or other spirochetes, but to Brucella bacteria as well. Brucella markers are also Osp 31 and 41.
