Did anyone here get Mental illness from Lyme? Bipolar? Did it go away after Lyme treatment?

Lyme can cause all types of problems. Anything can go away post lyme and sometimes even earlier if you work at it.
Bipolar is way, way over diagnosed today. Really think about what the problem might be before jumping into any psychiatric medications (including lithium and SSRIs). They may not solve the core problem that is causing the symptoms (lyme or otherwise).

To late for that with me. I do agree with you. One of my first major symptoms was bipolar. The physical things were very light so I didn't think much about it till later on when they got worse. Then I finally went to an LLMD and got diagnosed with Lyme.

By lithium lymeonade, are you talking about lithium orotate or do you mean the lithium psychiatrists rx?
I started lithium orotate a couple of days ago and seem to be more calm/less anxiety.
I'm taking about 20 mg/day.
There was an article in the current Townsend newsletter.

Also be sure to have your thyroid checked.

Yes. Lithium can slow down your thyroid and liver function.

Several psychiatrists have written about the connection between lyme and mental illness. It is well known among lyme literate doctors that the brain is affected, and produce a variety of mental problems.
Treatment can help all lyme symptoms, so you are on the right track.

Does anyone know of a good LLMD psychiatrist in NYC?
Posted by TF (Member # 14183) on :
No. I don't know of anybody good in NYC when it comes to lyme disease.
However, there is a good lyme literate psychiatrist in NJ. See the article below:
He will NOT treat you for lyme, but will treat the psychiatric problems that lyme is causing you.
Since he is such an expert on the psychiatric aspects of lyme, you may want to seriously consider seeing him for his opinion.

The doc in NJ is not taking new patients at this point. You could probably contact that office for suggestions, however, I am sending you a private message with a name for NYC. Be sure to sign in to lymenet to acccess this message. We do not post doctors names publicly, but use the private message system here.

I had a lot of brain involvement with lyme and the very low dose lithium orotate that you get at the health food store really helped. The first one I took had magnesium stearate and it gave me intestinal issues so I switched to Pure Encapsulations.
I still have brain issues and do still use it once in awhile.
