I have developed a bullseye rash on my tricep that has increase in size by about 50% in past 4 days. A Nurse practitioner believed it to be spider bite, but prescribed Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim. I have no other symptoms, other than a stiff neck (probably from staring at the computer).

My questions: Are these antibiotics correct for Lyme? In my research I don't see them listed as one that kills the Lyme bacteria. Also any suggestions on the best course of action early treatmetn on the chance this is Lyme disease?

PLEASE take a photo of that rash!!! Include your face in one of the pics. Mark the edge and take another one tomorrow to see if it is expanding.

Those drugs will not help Lyme.

I'll have to come back later to help.

I have had 3 Lyme rashes.

As you know, the skin does absorb things you rub into it.. If I were to get another rash, throughout the day, I would be busy vigorously rubbing in the following things:
1) Grapefruit seed extract--- a known spirochete and cyst killer
2) Sarsaparilla Tincture-- a known spirochete killer
3) colloidal silver-- kills pathogens
4) Bacitracin ointment or antibiotic cream
5) Lugol's Iodine
6) Cats Claw tincture

I don't know if this would really help, but the disease does radiate out from the rash, and rubbing known spirochete killers onto the skin might just stop some of the monsters from going into the rest of your body.

I am not a doctor, but this is what I myself would do.

Oh-- also if you are prescribed Doxycycline for Lyme-- you must ask your doctor to add in a cyst buster. Doxy causes a huge increase in cysts as it suppresses living spirochetes. Each cyst has 12 baby spirochetes in it and you will get sick again as soon as you are off the Doxy.

My advice is to go to a Lyme Literate doctor immediately.

I know you are in a bad spot for finding someone to treat Lyme disease in TN .. but do what you can to become informed so you can get some help.

You will have to do some traveling in order to get well if it is indeed Lyme .. and my bet is that it is.

Here is some reliable info on Lyme:

Wow, this sounds like my story.

My rash was misdiagnosed as a spider bite by a trusted medical professional.

A week later I saw a new PCP for a physical therapy referral. On a whim a showed her the rash. It was so big I was scared it was infected. I was diagnosed with Lyme on the spot.

By the way, my rash hurt like hell and itched a little. I still didn't believe I had Lyme. I tested CDC positive a month later

You want to be on doxycycline ASAP. I've been infected twice. Don't wait to start taking.

I tried the natural route the 2nd time I was infected and totally regret it. Just waiting a month before taking doxycycline put me in a world of hell.

I also took a picture of the rash daily with a quarter next to it to show the growth.

Good luck!
