Does anyone know how long a Rocephin push should take? Also, if you have a PICC line, what is the largest syringe you can use to push it. I don't have a nurse right now and don't want to explode the line. Thanks.

I did about 20 minutes for 20cc push.

Please be very careful Marie. I have read that Rocephin pushes are very dangerous and that rocephin should be administered slowly.

It concerns me that you don't have a nurse and were not taught how to infuse and care for the PICC yourself.
Do you have a friend, family, church/ activity/ volunteer group member, or neighbor that is a nurse who may help you?
Can you not get advice and help from your doctor office? Especially from the office prescribing your Rocephin and PICC line supplies.
You mentioned not wanting to "explode the line". Generally, syringes smaller than 10cc are not used on PICCs because they can generate higher pressure.
Of course, if you use a 10cc syringe and use a lot of force you can generate an undesirable amount of pressure too...

I will be seeing a nurse on Friday. I am familiar with the IV protocols as I have been doing this several years now but never did a push. The hospital where I had the line placed said they don't do pushes. So far- no problem and at least I don't needs tubing- more money.

I'm going to be using a 30 CC syringe for 10 minute push. Do you think this is okay / less pressure? Thanks,

No, 10min will be too fast for your body to process. You truly risk side effects!
Please take the time to administer your Rocephin over at least 20min. Longer is better, see if you can try it over 60min.
Also 20cc is no problem for pressure, commonly used. 30cc would be fine too if preferred but no better.

I did it last night over 10 minutes and nothing happened. I am seeing a nurse tomorrow and will find out for sure. When you drip it in a bag, the hospital did it over 15 minutes. If I find out more tomorrow or if anyone has questions ask me now and I will let you know when I get back tomorrow evening.
