Hey folks,

I am 3 months into IV treatment. Last week on the 3 day break from pulsing I got Hives. I have read in can be herx reaction.

This week it started on my 2nd day of infusion. They appear mostly on my hips, knees and elbows.

It seems to be controlled with Benedryl.

I never had hives before, so this all new to me.

I do have a bum thyroid and see it can be caused this too.

Again thanks for your insights.

Do everything you can to detoxify. Drinks lots and lots of water with lemon squeezed into it. If you have glutathione, take it.

I lived on Benadryl for hives for about 3 months when treating lyme and cos.

Once I got rid of the tick-borne diseases, I no longer got hives to various meds.

It is the body over-reacting to many things.

Thanks TF,

It is comforting to know I am not alone and others have experienced the same thing.

The Benadryl really dries you out. I am also using calamine lotion.

Please check with your doctor. If it's controlled by Benadryl, that means it's an allergic reaction.

Lyme made me allergic to many things - and reactions can pop up even after you've been on a med for a long time.

Benadryl helps with the itching. The rash does not disappear.Even the Calamine takes some time to help.

Does that make it controlled?

I am sure when I see my doc he will be doing some allergy testing.

I think you should call your doctor's office and inform them of all of this. See what he wants to do about it.

Have you started anything new that coincides with the hives?

I have not. My doctor is aware of it.My muscles are very tight in all the usual Lyme ache's. I am aching head to toes.

I did use a lip balm yesterday and my lips are swollen. No lip filler for me.

I know heat is not the greatest thing for the hives. I am going to soak in epsom salt tub.

I ended up with horrible hives from IV Rocephin. Ended up finding out I was allergic to it. From the hives I started vomiting. Wasn't a pretty picture.

We thought at first that I was reacting and having a herx... not so. Just allergic to the Rocephin family.

I went through 2 days of drug allergy testing to confirm the true allergy.

Gosh, it still sounds like an allergy is the most likely explanation.

I'm not sure about your Benadryl question. But I do know that rashes from allergies can take a while to go away. After I became allergic to Bactrim, the rash took months to go away. The itchiness was gone quickly but the rash took forever.

By the way, I'd been on Bactrim for months before becoming allergic. And I was on lots of other things too, so at first we couldn't tell what I was reacting to.

So I stopped everything and went back on each thing one by one. Boom - big itchy rash with the Bactrim so we (finally) had the culprit.

When I finally made it to my dermatologist, he took one look at it and said "Bactrim rash." (Then he wanted to give me steroids to get the rash to go away and I didn't take them, but I digress.)

I still suggest seeing an allergist. If it was me, I'd go off whatever you're on until you figure out what's causing it, but it sounds like you've talked with your doctor.

I know you've been at this for a while. Are hives one of your usual herx symptoms?

They are not a normal reaction for me. I have decided to stop treatment and pull the line.

I will be back in Mass. this spring and will revisit where I go next.

Thanks for all of your valuable insights.
